Drivers mirror fell out

My drivers mirror fell out and got scratched. So I ordered a new one but I am unsure if I should try removing the backing from the old mirror or not. The mirror detached from it's backing cleanly and there is just some slightly perished film left behind on the self adhesive pad.

What do people think?
