Drivers door not operating from outside

Hi, I entered a question on the Newbie section, so not sure whether it has been read here? The driver's door will not open. The handle feels normal, but the door feels locked. It began with just sticking and having to resort to pulling on the left hand side of the handle. It stuck but with a pull, the door would open. Now it just won't. From inside it's completely normal and smooth. Can anyone make any suggestions?

Managed to get this fixed at my local garage. There doesn't appear to be a cable. The mechanic said that the metal links had become bent, so we're not achieving enough reach. These were straightened and now it all works..... A bit bizarre.
