Drivers door latch

Seems something has died inside the drivers door latch. Possibly a spring or something. When closed, the latch moves to and fro, causing the door to rattle. When I pull up the handle the latch doesn't spring open like it does on the other E85s I have here. I have to wiggle the door to open it.
I have already replaced the bowden cable and checked the handle isn't damaged.

I am going to fit a new door latch assembly.
My question is, will this plug and play or is there any coding required for the central locking?

I fitted a new lock mechanism as my door would not open even after I replaced the boden cable ...I fitted a pattern unit and no coding needed for mine

Excellent! Just what I was hoping to hear. Thank you.

Same for me. No coding required.

Hi guys
I've just joined the forum, many thanks for allowing me in, I have a 2005 e85 based Alpina roadster s, my driver's door will not open. The inside door handle feels as if it is not connected to anything, but the outside handle feels as if it tries to engage with something then skips over it and the door is still closed. Can I get the door card off with the door closed and somehow get something on the lock to open the door?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I'm not sure quite how you get the door card off with the door closed tbh.
It sounds as though you possibly have a seized cable from the outer handle to the latch. This is what had happened to mine. So then people yank the handle up and a small piece of plastic tooth breaks off the handle, meaning it won't engage anymore. This could be the resistance and slip you feel.
If the inner door handle is not working either, then that could be the cable popped out of it's link on the latch.
Nothing you can do about any of it until the door is open though.
Is there enough room to prise the rear of the door card away far enough to reach the linkage on the latch where the inner handle connects? If so, this should open the door.

Here's a view of the driver's door lock assembly for you.
The metal hook near the bottom is the operating lever from the internal handle.
It pulls down to open the lock.
Not sure exactly how you can reach it but step one is getting the door open and this should do it.
The white plastic bit above it holds the link to the black knob on top of the door and won't help you at all, other than making sure it's pulled up to unlock before you start.

Many thanks, that's brilliant, I'll see if I can get the door card away enough to pop the lock. I did replace the outer handle Bowden cable about 6 months ago as the old one had stretched and got a link in it and rusted. I hope to take the whole lot apart and check for wear and anything broken. I'll post a response with how it goes.

Good luck.
I was wondering, if you unscrewed the black knob, would you have room to feed a thin coat hanger wire down through that hole to hook the lever.
Would be a right old hit and miss affair though, but at least you know it's in a direct line with the knob.

Many thanks, I'll give it a try, from my days in blue uniform I have a "slim Jim" specially designed for opening cars that had the keys locked in them, I was going to try that too. Will post how I get on.

Ah well, you'll be fine then, just keep plodding on. :D
