Drivers carpet retaining velcro

Not often I get stumped, but open to ideas on this one...

The drivers side floornmat has pulled the velcro retaining strips off the floor carpet. I've tried contact adhesive and superglue, but the mat pulls the strips off again after a few days. Heat to melt them on worries me as the carpet is likely to melt first.

Any ideas on a way to fix them down properly. Don't want to have to replace the entire carpet and a sliding mat bugs me.

Staples? Won't be visible when the mat is insitu.

Or a bit a Weetabix with milk. When dried on a bowl it takes a nuclear bomb to shift :P that sound hold it

I had this. Araldite is your friend. Worked a treat.

Araldited the bit back onto the floor. Did it about 2 years ago and has totally sorted it. Just used some weights to hold it down while drying. Survives being pulled apart for hoovering.

Staples might be a good idea if I could find a way of crimping them under the main carpet

Weetabix - I can already see the mice nesting in the footwell with in room dining provided

Same problem in mine. If a 2-part epoxy like Araldite works I might give that a try. If I remember correctly there are iron-on velcro strips available that might work as well. Your local haberdashery store just might hold the answer!

One for the Mrs maybe - but sewing them on might do the trick.

Don't fancy it myself, but would definitely hold them down

I thought about sewing but the originals were thermally melted on, so the carpet and edges of the velcro are sort of fused and thus would be like stitching a shoe sole on :(

Iron on is interesting idea - must send Mrs CJ shopping (if I can't figure out stapling them)

Had mine go sometime ago. Just used some Evo Stick contact adhesive with a heavy lump of metal on top till dry. Hasn't come off since :D

I got some 3M velcro pads from PC world of all place... and they are well tough when applied with heat.... maybe if you could shave the carpet under the pads (so you get a flat surface) and use them?

I have used a strip of them to hold my nintendo Wii and apple TV to the back of wall mounted flat screen!

OK - cracked it so to speak.

The ideas of staples and sewing got me thinking of physical attachment rather than glue. Ended up drilling thin pilot holes in the mat and 1/2 inch into the underlying carpet/backing. 2 1cm long pop rivets in each with some glue in between and you'd now rip the carpet out of the car before the mat moved - result...

Thanks for the input guys
