Driving home tonight, the driver's side wiper stopped mid-motion. The passenger side still continue to work. Pulled over to the side of the road and moved the driver's side down to the start position. It feels like it's moving quite easily so I suspect that it is the linkage which is broken rather than anything else. I'm planning to take it apart tomorrow to have a look, but does anyone have any idea if this is something which can be repaired or does it need replaced?

If one of the arms has popped out it the mechanism it may be possible to clip it back in. I suspect it it may in any event be worn and new mechanism is needed.

Well taken it all apart using the very helpful guide on here and it looked like one of the linkage arms had popped out (it's a sort of ball joint). Had quite a bit of difficulty putting it back on and I wouldn't be surprised if I'll be resting the same thing in a few weeks as the joint didn't seem to go back together as well as I would have expected.
Anyone got any suggestions for the easiest way to put the join together?

As I suspected the joint popped out. I expect it will happen again as it's worn out, unless the wiper was restricted by something (hand, snow, etc.)

There was a fairly loud bang at the time it happened and something small and black hit the windscreen - I have a suspicion something may have come off the car next to me (or possibly a bird?!) and hit the windscreen and knocking it off. All working fine right now - as long as I can keep on fixing it until I can find a replacement from a breakers I'm happy!

Had the same. Dealer replaced the whole linkage system including electric motor. cost me €440,-. Hapened on route to our holiday so had to let it fix by the local dealer at our destination.
