Driver Skills Days?

I'm toying with the idea of starting track days and would like to get some pro tips first...

Can anyone recommend a company/individual who provides driver skills training days?

I've tried Google but it doesn't turn up much and I'd prefer first hand recommendations from someone who has actually done it.

Cheers!

i would recommend Ray Grimes or Howard Hunt in your area. i'm pretty sure one does stuff at Teesside airport.
They are both highly respected driving coaches.

get a few guys together and have a day t it, or the costs can be a little high. but you do get what you pay for.

Cheers, have you ever done a skills day before? If so would you recommend one?

I did a skills day at prodrive.... not sure i would recommend it.

However i have heard tell that some of those car control courses can torture the tyres on the car!

These guys are the sort that will meet you at a track, get you comfortable in your car to drive properly on track. its not a road course.

I have to recommend Don Palmer who I would massively recommend if it is car control that you want to work on. I have met him through my membership of the High Performance Club. He is regarded as one of the very best in the industry. He normally operates out of Bruntingthorpe. www.donpalmer.co.uk

Generally, when you go on a track day, there is a professional driver that will sit with you for 15 or 20 minutes and give you tips, I find that 15 minutes is about as much as my brain wants to take in and try to internalise, so i learn one or two things each time.

I don't know how transferrable to the road that coaching is though - but it makes me look slightly less stupid on the track...

I'll bear that in mind - but that sounds exactly what I'm looking for...

Looks very good and again the kind of thing I'm looking for but a bit far for me...

I think I'm looking for a more intensive approach, I've never driven on a track before I don't hurt myself or anyone else.

I've approached a local outfit (http://teessideraceschool.co.uk) and have been quoted £500 for the day using their vehicles or £375 using my own. Opinions? Good/Bad?

Cheers for the input so far.

I did a day with Don Palmer at Bruntinthorpe some years ago in an E46 M3 at Brintingthorpe. Plan on trashing a set of rear tyres as you may well be sideways and / or spining a lot at first. Not sure if he still does those. I found him a slightly strange chap but great car control .

I have also done a Lotus course at Hethel in an Elise, more expensive but they supply the cars, and done BMW fahrer training in M3s at Nurburgring GP circuit and in a Z4MC at Mugelloin 2006 a, they are expensive but very good, again in their cars.

Still a crap driver but had great fun.
