Driver door weather strip / weather seal wear - advice ?

If this topic has already been beaten to death, my apologies, but my searches didn't find what I was looking for on the site. I would like advice regarding my coupe's door gasket (aka weatherstrip, weather seal). The current seal is rather chewed up at the bottom of the door opening from driver entrance and exit (it's my driver door; I'm in the US, so it's the left one - but I think the seals are symmetric). I bought the car like this, and it has not yet leaked, but it bothers me.

1) What schemes have members used to reduce wear from shoes scraping the seal at the door bottom ? I'm 5'11" and I can mostly avoid dragging my feet on it. Previous owners obviously found it a challenge too. Anyone try some sort of protective tape ? Of course, the seal still needs to seal.

2) Are there any How To's on replacing the weather seal ? I imagine I can figure it out, but seeing the proper method is a help.

Thanks in advance !

By weather strip, do you mean number 5 from diagram below?

Thanks for reminding that I should have included the RealOEM picture

2006 Coupe Door Frame Weather Seal (number 12).JPG

It's part number 12, but of course on roadsters it's only the bottom half. I may at first just try patching over with a high-strength black silicone gasket like Permatex(R) Ultrablack - But it's hard to make that look very good.

Drop me a PM of the build year and month. I will run this through ISTA and see if i can grab a manual for you. Did that for instructions on replacing (5) on my roadster.

Thanks for your response and offer. I got a new weather seal on with the help of a fellow Z4R owner.

The coupe door frame weather seal is one large and complex piece. A person could probably renew only the bottom of the weather seal using the roadster part, but it would be a complicated process. Since there were a couple of challenging steps, I documented what I did. I will post my description in the How To subforum.

Good to hear, looking forwards to it! I did a rough search but only found installation insturctions for the standard weather strip thats common to both the Coupe and the Roadster
