Autos hold because they're autos. Manuals don't have it.

The option is definitely available on manuals - I use mine daily on the ramp to drive up and out of an underground carpark while waiting for the gate to open. Really great feature.

I think you'll find that Carol was responding to toonmal who said that have a 2.0l 28i auto which has it.

As already mentioned MANY times 3.0l 6 cyclinder versions have it but 2.0l 4 cyclinders do not.

I'm confused!

Why would you need a gismo like this on an Auto?
Other than to park the car on a hill, I've never needed to use the "handbrake" it holds the car on most hills the torque converter does it all!

ts a good feature on a manual to make your hill starts perfect everytime with no effort.

Autos have always done that anyway. :)

Your confused because the auto on the 2.0l version does not have it and it uses the power when in drive to hold the car. My 35is does have it and I know it does because when the car is in neutral with the handbrake on when I go into drive and release the handbrake it doesn't really want to go anywhere for a couple of seconds, so the trick is to try and gauge the lights and put the car into drive a little bit earlier so it can move off as soon as they change. It's only really handy in an auto when your on a very steep hill.

Not sure why they felt the auto 3.0ls needed this function but they added it anyway.

My 2010 30i Manual has it.

Sorry. I did see above, the several assurances after I'd written the post.

 it's alright......just showing that not only do we get a sweet sounding straight 6, we also get a handy bit of tech....well handy if you can't do a hill start which when I was learning to drive was something I was made to do weekly to ensure I could. But I know sometimes you get a tard who's decided that they'll rest right on your bumper and there is no margin for error

Thats when you put your foot on the brake and put it into reverse and see them start looking behind for a way out

The DTC box unfortunately doesn't do that now. Used to be fun on the old 6 speed auto when you put the car into park and the reverse lights flashed up. These days park is a button and you need to push the lever hard into reverse :( but I remember even panicking first time I saw that then realised they had an auto

My 2009 23 has it... and its usefull aswell.

So a 6 cylinder and not a 4 cylinder then.

Just for clarification incase you've missed it the 18, 20 and 28 models do NOT have hillstart assist. The 23, 30 and 35 models DO. First group 4 cylinder, 2nd group 6 cylinder. So if you drive a 4 pot, no hillstart assist. Not sure if there is any reason for this.

Its because BMW are inept lying cnuts!

It was in the sales literature as a standard feature, it was on the website as well.

Then the cars were delivered and people initially thought their cars were faulty....until the truth came out.

Someone on here got a free upgrade to an auto, some people got comp (think £300 was the average pay out).

My salesman didn't know it was missing until I prompted him to test it...then he just shrugged it off.

And they also had the cheek to ask if I specifically requested it! Duh, it was listed as a standard feature....you don't normally question standard features?

They sell a car as having a feature, then fail to supply that feature. BMW will say to you "so what?".

Yeah we know. However you could have read some of the posts as the question relates to the 2.0l 4 cylinder petrol not the 2.5 or 3.0l 6 cylinder variants.
