Drive to Sweden?

I am going to a friend's wedding in June in Sweden, in a place called Fiskebackskil (which is on the South West Coast)
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=450+34+fiskebackskil,+Sweden&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=58.286395,9.711914&spn=11.321971,43.286133&sll=51.294852,-0.765268&sspn=0.006561,0.021136&oq=450+34+Fiskeb%C3%A4ckskil&hnear=Fiskeb%C3%A4ckskil,+V%C3%A4stra+G%C3%B6taland+County,+Sweden&t=m&z=5

I am thinking about driving and was wondering if anyone else has driven out there (or near there) and what your experience was, what Ferry you took, what Route etc etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.....

Thanks.

Wasn't that similar to the route on Top Gear, where Clarkson did a 24 hour trip in an McLaren SLR?

Few year back I did the Tour of Sweden in a Jeep. Yep V8 on 36" tyres....

Ferry from Harwich to Esberg then due East to Sweden -E20 iirc. Great drive and crossing the bridges was awesome...
I dropped to the South coast at Ystad, then followed the East coast to the artic circle at Kiruna.

Came back on the West and near where you're headed.

Really great route. Expect real expense, odd moose in the middle of the road and keep a full tank of petrol at all times.

Swedes love their cars, enjoy the long days and live well in Summer - enjoy

Teamemenracing spent (spends ?) a lot of time working over that way, IIRC, and drove all the way and back in hiz Z before Christmas. If I am right it might be worth finding him on the members list and PMing him ?

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I will try get hold of Teamemenracing too! cj10jeeper - what did you mean by "expect real expense"?

Just a very expensive country. E2 per litre for petrol and prices go up in the Summer whne they all travel. £5 for a cofffee. A country that's really expensive to live in and full of taxes.

Good job you're not going to Norway...you need a hellovalorracash for that trip!!

Just checked, Clarkson went on to Oslo, so a bit further than you are intending. Epic journey though if you dont take the northern ferrys!

I did it once! On the 2005 Cannonball.

We left Dover about 7.30pm for a 959 mile trip to the island of Oland off the East Coast of Sweden. We got there about noon the next day.

It is now all a bit of a blur ;)

Try this website. It will show you some nice twisty roads, and if you read the instructions it will tell you how to upload it to a Tom Tom or Garmin sat-nav.

You might want to get the ferry to gothenburg instead of Denmark it's a bit closer to your destination and the Orosund bridge is expensive.
It's an expensive country to visit but not to live, I lived there 8 years and loved it, try to get out there when something good is on I can recommend the Swedish sports car club annual race meet at knutstorp or Bostad clasic car show both bring to mind happy memories
