Drive off door lock weirdness...

So I spent an hour this afternoon redoing the outside latch Bowden cables for about the 85th time (there's a 30,000 word tirade on that if I can face it.) At least I'm pretty nimble at doing it all from the outside now.

While struggling to put the driver's lock barrel back together (nimble, yeah right), I managed to trip the auto open, the auto close and everything in between. (Hint: don't leave the door handle on the rear wing, leaning on the cloth so it will attempt to eat it when it decides it's opening the roof and nothing you can do will stop that process[1].)

When I eventually got it all back together I found that I've managed to enable the drive-off locking...

Received wisdom says this is a coding only thing...

So I know that you lovely and intelligent people will know far better and be able to tell me what the reverse incantation is because it's a feature I hate and fear in roughly equal measure.



[1] I managed to grab it before devastation set in but it was close.

Is Scanner 1.4 a bit of Windows software? I've never been quite sure whether it's software or a hardware doofa. I've just always used INPA and the BMW tools!

The odd thing with this is that I don't think the coding has changed. I've a feeling that it's a long lost hangover from E46 or earlier software where it was common for there to be a key based sequence to set/reset it. I actually reckon pulling the battery would clear it again (I just can't face having to reset the clock 😁. I really ought to in the name of science tho!)
 
So, he said to himself, I was right and it's a hangover from the E46 etc. Somewhere they'll be a coding option in the GM5 to allow a soft option to be set/unset with the key (I bet this is on a very random basis of Z4s out there.)

And what is this sequence? I'm glad I asked, I say, and the answer follows (I'm almost on the edge of my seat waiting for me to tell me.)

To set driveaway locking: With the car locked, press lock on the fob and unlock it using the key in the driver's door.

To unset, again with the car locked, press unlock on the fob and lock it with the key.

I can't wait to go outside and try the information I've just learnt from myself!
