Drink Driving

I don't like alcohol at all, so never drink. Would still feel nervous for a breathalyser though for the same reason if I go through a speed trap at 30 in a 30 as you always worry about something going wrong with their equipment etc.

It was, but not sure I agree with you as it most certainly brings is more in line with the rest of Europe and the World,.

Looks like England has the highest limit in the world!! :o :o :o

I dont drink much at all these days but I have never seen the point in only having one drink.
Why bother. If its the social side of it being in a pub with your mates why not just have a soft drink?
Every now and then a few mates and myself get together in Glasgow and none of us drink alcohol as we are all driving.

I don't drink at all, never have done really, but if I did common sense would say not to at all when behind the wheel but then you wonder how many people are on the road taking prescription drugs etc who perhaps shouldn't be driving. I'm amazed how many people I see behind the wheel on a mobile phone.

Tim.

Frankly if we think that by stopping people having a pint or a glass of wine (in the singular) we are going to make massive inroads in to road deaths or casualties we may as well force everyone over 50 and under 25 to take retake their test every year as well whilst we are at it. The current limit is set where it is because it is common sense and not trying to nanny people.

I learned my lesson 20 years ago after being banned for three years and doing two months inside. That was a very valuable lesson learned.

You cant trust people to use common sense, the majority need told what to do, thats why you always hear "how many drinks am I allowed to have"
People never think they will get caught, thats why they do it.

I think the current limit is fine as it is. People with young kids in the car, people texting,
using smartphones, people on cannabis, smokers are all way more of a menace than someone under our existing limit is.

I like your view and agree we don't need any more 'nanny state' laws!
Personally I won't have any alcohol if I'm driving.

One hell of a lesson :o

I got breathalysed many many years ago when it was said to be OK to have two pints!

I had two pints of weak lager, followed by fish and chips and several ciggies _ I was young (23) fit and healthy.
The breathalyser was 1.5 hours after the last drink - I failed !
I did pass the subsequent test at the cop shop.

That experience 45 years ago was my wake up call and can honestly say I have never had a drink and a drive since and if that puts me in the holier than thou camp then so be it!

As OG states a bit of common sense goes along way, you will all know how alcohol effects you and should recognise when to stop, I will usually have 1 unit of alcohol if I'm driving, that's half a pint. After two units, I know my judgement is impaired, but I may well be under the limit.

Half a pint of what though?
Every lager or beer has different strengths, why risk it? What good is one drink?

Many times I've been driven home by her ladyship and thought to myself that I felt perfectly OK to drive - but knowing I would be over with the limit.

Over the limit is an impossible judgement to make, so best not to have any!

Living in Scotland with the new lower limit its the morning after that worries me. Never had 1/2 a pint & drivin.
But since the new limit was introduced I bought one of theses http://www.halfords.com/camping-leisure/travel-accessories/breathalysers/alcosense-elite-2-breathalyser-uk-ireland-europe

If I've been out on the drink the night before I use this the next day, frightening the results. Out with my mates on Tuesday for a few drinks from 1pm till about 8pm maybe 6 pints of cider & 6 vodkas & 2 glasses of red wine with 3 course dinner at 6pm steak & trimmings. In bed for 10:30pm. Up at 7:30am feeling totally fine. Blows into breathalyser & blow a reading of 1.1mg that's double the legal limit up here now. Again 9:30am still 0.8mg. Scary was 12:00 before I blew 0.4. As I say never knowingly driven after a drink but it's the morning after that worries me.

For me, I'm in the holier than thou camp - selfishly because I don't want to mess up my chances of enjoying an activity I love but perhaps more importantly, even with one drink, if I'd caused an accident, heaven forbid hurt someone or even worse, I could never live with the doubt that the drink might have added to the accident. I also couldn't forgive anyone that took that attitude and perhaps hit one of my own . . .

I wonder if it's also much more important to me in the Zed as I use it as a 'sports car' and it just seems incredible to approach driving it impaired - but then nearly every drive is a fun one for me. Luckily my wife doesn't drink and so in a social setting I get a ride home.

I don't drink to get drunk, I drink because I like the taste of real ale and seriously, on half a pint, the risk is positively minuscule. Thinking about it, your statement
