Drilling plates-

Hi all -im fitting my private reg perspex plates today,is it easier to tape the old plate to the new and drill straight through with the same diameter hole thats already in the old plate or is it better to start with a small hole and work up?-thanks-(previously i have used adhesive pads but have been a pita)

Make sure you drill from the back of the plate to prevent the backing from coming off, i would use a smaller drill first as a pilot.

Just fit to my Zed Thats what I did but as srhutch says you must drill from the back, dont forget the pic when you have done

Cheers for the quick reply mate, are they like drilling tiles -should i use masking tape ?

No need. As said just start with small drill and work up.
Have you considered number plate holders. They look good and you don't need to drill plate, the plate just clips in and out.

Andy, are you going for a record for the most number of new topics started? :poke: they all make very useful reading and add to the wealth of knowledge on the forum

I had noticed this also.

As said before drill from back but check where the hole will come through as it may be half on a letter and half on the backing . This what hapened to me and you carnt buy half yellow and black screw caps.

Nothing wrong with sticking them mate, thats what i did with my e46 but it put years on me over something so simple :) -rear was fine as its straight, but the front of my e46 seemed to be a nightmare, alcohol wipes and sticky pads only to find couple of days later started lifting, over and over again. My zed came with plates screwed on so i did as advised above-job done end of :)

Probably too late now, but why not use self adhesive pads? whoever had my car before made a right mess and there is about 3 holes behind the plates !
