DREADED WINDOW RESET

In an attempt to connect a battery charger to the car i have lost the window setting on the zed i.e the last movement to seal the window to the hood plus clock settings. I have seen various options on this forum to adddress this. Can anybody tell me which seems the most succesfull before i spend 20mins trying various options to sort this . I have still not connected the charger for fear of ballsing something else up. becoming a bloody pain zed ownership.,, :headbang:

Do you mean a maintainer or charger?

With regard to window reset I normally do mine with the engine running. Put window down then press and hold the switch in a few seconds as if to open. Do this a few times then raise the window and repeat the button procedure a few time except pulling of course.

This is from BMW service bulletin SI B51 16 05 dated Nov 2005 specifically for E85s, so I would consider it the "official" procedure, though my copy may have been superseded, unbeknownst to me. You can just have the engine running in place of step 1, and you can skip step 8 if you like.

To initialize the power windows:
1. Connect a battery charger to the vehicle.
2. Close both doors and the soft top (or hardtop installed).
3. Lower both windows completely.
4. Raise windows and hold the switches in the up position for one additional second after the windows reach
the top.
5. Lower the windows 100 mm or approximately 4 inches.
6. Raise the windows and hold the switches in the up position for one additional second after the windows
reach the top.
7. Close the windows using the one-touch feature function and ensure that this works correctly.
8. Check the anti-trap function by inserting a plastic rod with a diameter greater than 6 mm in the left side
window between the door window and the soft-top/hardtop and then close the window with the one touch
function. If the function is OK, the anti-trap function will respond.
9. Repeat step 8 above for the right side window.

Yes a maintainer as battery is good. I presume you do this process on each window individually? They are not synced in some way are they?

Do them one at a time. I've never had an issue connecting my CTEK though.

I don't get it all I did was release the nut and washer from the negative stud at which point the clamp became loose and arched. I panicked and tightened it back up so the eyelets are still not connected to the studs and I have now to initiate a window reset. What could be easier am I missing something???

Ha ha very funny postseller. I just want to drive the car not keep resetting, charging blah blah am new to this lark!Anyway with a bit of luck the "dreaded" sun will come out over Christmas and i can take the "dreaded" zed for a spin. :lol:

Why disconnect to charge the battery?

Did not disconnect released clamp to fit eyelet and broke connection briefly.

Always disconnect negative terminal first (making sure you prevent any alternative path to ground).

Always re-connect the negative terminal last.

If you follow this simple rule you should not get any re-set issues. I have had my battery disconnected many times to work on lights/fit MFSW etc. and have never had any such reset issues upon re-connection.

Just read this again and it sounds like you may have created a situation where the DC circuit was fluctuating rapidly between open and closed states as the loose terminal wobbled on the battery post (a bit like rapidly flicking a light switch on and off).

Most electronic equipment will not like having current presented in this manner and often the default reset for kit is to turn on and off rapidly in this way.

I suspect that if you had fully removed the negative terminal to add your eyelet then done the same to the positive before reconnecting the terminals to positive first then negative last it would have worked without any reset issues.

It maybe a timing issue but normally when I have disconnected the battery I have had to perform the reset procedure.
