Hi guys ,
I think i have the symptoms of "sticky / notchy steering, and being abit old, and not very hands on mechanically wise, how much do you think it would cost on average for a local garage to do the drill hole in column jobby, to see if that helps 1st...
If anyone has had this done in the Notts/Leics area would be nice, or if any of you guys know,/how and would want to do for the right price... ! please let me know as it's not real bad yet, but does get abit unnerving on country lane and at motor way speeds etc. :(
Thanks... Dave.

If you mean it "twitches" at @60-70 then mine did that. I had "Powerflex" poly bushes fitted, replacing the front wishbone rear's and the problem was resolved.

have a look here;

If it is genuinely symptoms of sticky steering, I have carried out the drill hole and grease nipple solution on my zed purely as preventative maintenance. The whole job took about an hour, so on that basis I would expect an indie to do it for £60-£80 max. As per tug's reply, you need to first make sure that it is not the much more likely symptom of worn bushes in front control arms and drop links, causing a slight twitchness. What is the mileage on the car?

Thanks for the replies and info guys, it's not twitchyness, its where instead of just moving the wheel to say correct your lane position, you have to get over a slight notch, which then takes you further over than i wanted, so i have to then re correct..
Not that it might not be a combination of that and bushes etc, but it's only just gone through an Mot, so i assumed they'd be ok.
will enquire at local garage to see what they say and if they can do it for me. again, Thanks. Dave. ps... it's an E85 2.5ltre roadster 2005 vintage.

Try spraying some 3 in 1 around the Uj,s on the steering colum in the engine bay before going to any expense.

Sticky steering isn't notchy, it's like the power steering has failed or paused and then comes back on (or that's how I'd describe it)

Good luck!
