drain holes

IIRC, it's in the far forward, outer corner of the little 'box' you're groping in. It may be worth removing the tyre one time so you can see what's what. Then groping will be simple in the future.

Removing it is pretty easy. Getting it back in place by feel alone, having no previous visual reference, can be challenging. Some are much better at this than others.
 
I only check the left as the motor is on the left.
You can see if there is any pooling on the right by looking through the back window

The plug is about an inch forward (towards the door) of the front edge of the hole, roughly level with the outer edge and about 3-4 inches up, past the thee cables.
 
Found the plug. Have not pulled it out (yet), planning to take it out to hover it, just in case.
 
I think it would be tricky to put the plug back in with the arch liner and splashguard in place, but easy enough to feel around inside the rubber of the plug for any debris.

I am having problems finding the hole... yes yes... everyone can make that joke...

Where abouts South east are you, orpington close? Would it warrant me a drive to you for you to lend me a hand?
 
When you pull the rubber plug, grab a good hold of the collar that its attached to and pull on the collar. Much easier to re-fit the plug to the collar when both are off the car.

Then much easier to replace once cleaned.

BTW, these plugs are under the sill, you really need to remove the arch trim for good access.

Rear arch drivers side, IIRC 1 10mm and 2 8mm nuts in the front of the arch and 1 underneath an 8mm i think. For the underneath one get on your back and look......do NOT mistake for the rivets, the nut sits in a little recess. Remove these, remove the bit of trim and feel forward under the seal for the rubber bit about the size of a 50p. With the trim and the wheel removed you can see the plug.

Pull, clean and replace.

You'll kick yourself once you realise how simple this is.
 
My facelift car has 2 torx screws (T25?) in place of the upper 8mm nuts Lance described. Just to point out YMMV. Mine still has the 8mm at the bottom.
