Please can somebody point me in the right direction....

Ive been trying to search for how to check/unblock the drain holes and not found anything descriptive on how to do it. Any help would be appreciated, many thanks in advance.

Jack up wheel (you can take off the wheel if you dont have monkey hands)

take off the front arch cover, there are 3/4 screws i think, some under the car. (you DO NOT need to take off the whole lot,)

Put you hand in and unscrew the plug, its black and squidgey.. you can see it with the plug removed here. that hole.

Shove an 8mm plastic tube up the hole, squirt water and suck etc, attach hoover etc..

You can also reach the drains by putting the hood up, and sitting in the seat looking over your outside shoulder, you can see the top of the drain there.

Like the use of the laptop and what looks like the TIS!

But you forgot to use axle stands :poke:

No point in axle stands when im doing one side and its a quick job, the trolley jack on the mat is fine..

if im doing a wheels off job like cleaning them in the bath or painting s**t, ill put the stands on and jack up from the rear.

I think you can do any car work with a laptop, a few forums and bmw TIS. :)

Ooh -doesnt it bother you putting your alloy wheel face down on gravel?

That's exactly what I was thinking as I read the post. Face down on a gravel drive, regardless of tyre protection, etc.

they are crap 16's, and are becomming my winter wheels once I find some alpina dynamics, or something i really like. i really dont care for them.

My summer wheels however, they will be my babies..

Great writeup. I have been meaning to do this myself for ages but have been too lazy.

I think this is probably the number one piece of preventative maintainance you can on the Z. Just think, all it takes is a few leaves in there and a heavy rainstorm and you need £2000 worth of roof motor replacing :o

These are the drains from the top pre clean.

Is that what you see or do the soft top/motors normally obstruct the view?
Both pics look like the drains are clear?

Great thread guys, have become a little complacent since having a new (sealed) motor fitted, but I guess should still keep and eye on this
