Drain cleaning-

andysat

Lifer
Happy new year to you all!!-can the drains be cleaned/checked without jacking or removing the wheel?-ive searched a bit and found its easier to remove wheel but i just wondered?

i think one side can be seen from the top.. but to clear the tube you will need to remove the wheels.

I had to jack the car but managed without removing the wheels, with pointy fingers and a mirror you don't have to remove all the parts suggested in this guide although access is probably a bit better if you do. 20 min per side once you have worked out which screws etc actually need to be removed.

Thanks for the replies-ive seen pics on here of the drains as viewed from the top,i can see an 'L' shaped cover approx 2-3 inches long-is this the cover, can it be removed?

Andy, if you look at that PDF I think you will find it's pretty clear what need to be removed.

you CANT clean your drains properly, or even anywhere close to ok from the top, so dont bother..

the L shape covers you talk of are the top of the hardtop prep kit.

As im a nice guy ill repost what i said a week ago...

Jack up wheel (you can take off the wheel if you dont have monkey hands)

take off the front arch cover, there are 3/4 screws i think, some under the car. (you DO NOT need to take off the whole lot,)

Put you hand in and unscrew the plug, its black and squidgey.. you can see it with the plug removed here. that hole.

Shove an 8mm plastic tube up the hole, squirt water and suck etc, attach hoover etc..

You can also reach the drains by putting the hood up, and sitting in the seat looking over your outside shoulder, you can see the top of the drain there.
