On the suggestion of an esteemed forum member, I am expanding my practice and will now be operating a problem page. After all a problem shared is a problem halved. I can also offer solutions for any "friends" that might be facing problematic situations.

Dear Dr Dizz,

This morning I woke up with a really stiff one, can you suggest what I do with it as its been driving me mad all day & people have really noticed it now.

Tony

(You dirrrrty lot :D , I've got a stiff neck!!! )

For temporary relief, I would recommend a brisk rubbing in of a topical cream to the affected area. Depending on the result you wish to achieve, either choose one which will make the area less sensitive or if you really want to go for it, one that is stimulating and heating. You do not need to visit a professional to administer this treatment, but can safely do this on your own in the privacy of your own bedroom.

Thank you Dr Dizz, one further question though, I think it would really be awkward to get my hand around it to apply the cream though, my wife normally helps if I'm really struggling on my own, is this still appropriate given my predicament? :?

Dear TonyP

Your wife can most certainly help in such a situation, but anyone can really, as long as they have a firm grip because the cream can make hands quite slippery.

Can you help me Doc .... ?
I having extreme bouts of anxiety ............

As I get older Im noticing that more and more people around me are quite mad ........ in fact, Im begining to understand that I'm the only sane person left, well just me and my special friends, you know the ones that only I can see ...... anyway, its getting quite stressfull having to feign mental illness just to fit in ........ :D

Dear teamemmenracing

Regarding your bouts of anxiety, I recommend less caffeine, sugar and alcohol and more exercise.

As for other people around you being mad, this is absolutely correct and nothing to worry about. It is often quite difficult to tell the sane from the insane and even doctors have trouble doing so , please see Rosenhan (1972) "Being sane in insane places". Take comfort in your 'special' friends, at least if no-one else can see them, you won't have to pay for extra tickets should you wish to go to the cinema/races/theatre/etc. with them, thus making them a relatively cheap date.

Best
