Down loading Music

Hello all, so after our recent disappointment of being outbid on two houses and selling two of my Z4s in the process I decided to treat myself to another E89. My question is how do I get my Spotify music onto the hard drive ?
I don’t have apple car play and I can play my music through my BT transmitter but it would be nice to have it already installed.
TIA Eddie

You can't..

Well you could by copying your music onto a pc hard drive..burn a cd off the hard drive..load the cd into the idrive hard disk

Not sure if you have USB support whether its possible to copy from USB to idrive hard disk.

However quality is crap and limited space.

I'd but a cheap old iphone and load your music onto that..pretty easy..then plug that into your USB in the centre arm rest..excellent quality even if your speakers are crap and plenty of space to store music..simples

Pre Carplay I loaded music onto a USB stick then loaded it onto the hard Drive. As said previously however the space is limited so not much choice.

Just thinking it through .if you have usb support and you can get to the point of loading it on a usb stick then you can usually play it direct from the stick..

If you use a streaming app..I use YouTube app then its best via another smart device like an iPhone…

Of course the other option is just to add car play MMI box to your car..

I think I’ll try the USB stick that you and Nanu have mentioned and try and download onto the hard drive. Burning a CD with my favourite music and downloading onto the hard drive sounds good as well. I don’t really need anything fancy and expensive so I’ll try those options first

Bluetooth your phone to the car then jus open the Spotify app.... Simples...
Didn’t know I could do that, thought the BT was just for calls.

Its not clear (to me) from your option list whether bluetooth for music will work or not :tumbleweed:

Currently I'm in the planning stage of making a video on all of the music options that are available for the E89, this would be, of course, very dependent as to what options were chosen by the original purchaser or may have been fitted at a later stage.

@Lynchy , Not really sure as to whether you're trying to just load music onto the hard drive or you're wanting to stream music on-the-go?

But if you just want to listen to music that you've downloaded already then I'd suggest not bothering to load it onto the hard drive and simply play it from a memory stick plugged into the USB socket in the centre console. I'm currently using a 32Gb stick and it has thousands of tracks on it, and it's not even half full yet. You can load it in a number or formats, Album, Playlist, Folder, you can then play it in a number of ways as well and search as well. If your system it coded the right way it'll even give you album art (dependent of options).

As already mentioned above, if it's streaming from your phone then you're current Bluetooth adaptor will do this, but you don't then have steering wheel control over track skip etc

I stream Spotify from my iPhone via a Bluetooth/aux adapter in the armrest. I can control the volume via the buttons on the steering wheel.
To skip tracks, just ask Siri to do it

Cheap as chips but works well for me

Yeah that'll work, depending on the location of your phone at the time.
Do you have the factory USB/AUX, or are you using a cigar lighter USB adaptor? I ask because as you've got the iPhone and if you have the factory USB then you can just plug your phone in and it'll allow you to control it via the wheel buttons, and a better connection.

He does

Cheers Anubiszed, yeah as B21 said it's the factory fitted option - more an ease of use thing really.
iPhone is in a dash mount, (so can use as a SatNav if needed) or the door pocket and it connects as soon as ignition is turned on, means I don't have to keep plugging/unplugging. I've had an issue with a previous iPhone when the connector socket needed replacing, so prefer the wireless option.
