Doubling the exhausts

Hi all

Has anyone modded their zed so there is exhausts on both sides? I much prefer the symmetry of the back when the exhausts are at either side. I'm thinking two at both sides or 1 at each side.

I was also wondering if anyone's painted that part of the car to match the body colour ( in my case white) think it would look cool.

Here's a couple of photos. One of the car as it is now and a very badly photoshopped version with the doubled exhausts and tints on the back.

Any thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Alex

I like the 4 exhausts idea but wonder if the new side could be connected up to the system safely, what with 10 gallons of fuel directly above it.
Not sure about painting the lower panel white though. Looks better as a dark area, a sort of rear diffuser effect, to me anyway.

Umm, buy a 35i...... you get pipes on either side for free! :P

Not very helpful!

Yer, sorry about that! On a slightly more serious note - if the 35i comes with split pipes as standard, it should mean that a retrofit shouldn't be too difficult

Could the new exhaust just be dummy's? I used to have a Volvo c30 witch had pipes either side and I know a lot of people on that forum who had the 1 pipe version put a dummy on in to match.

I presume the best way to do it would be to use a bumper of the 35i

Thanks. I'm a complete novice when it comes to things like this but just wanted to know if it was at all possible. Might cost a fortune though!

Just found this on a different forum:
http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=457499

this would be amazing!

I cannot see this being much different from the E85/E86 quad conversion mod that many members have done

The first step would be to understand the exhaust system layout...

This would be way beyond my level of ability and I would have to get someone to do it. so what do you guys think it would roughly cost?

If anyone on here in the north of england does this sort of thing let me know! Would much rather a fellow zed owner did it that my local mechanic.

On google images search for:

bmw z4 e89 eisenmann quad exhaust

Looks great, especially in black

The 35is has mostly coloured rear bumper and twin single pots, so would look similar to this if you we're to get it done!

WOW!!!!

This is perfect. Just need someone who knows what their doing now. Anyone know someone who does this sort of thing?

I had quad conversions on my E86.

Took my E89 to the same guys to look at and they said it was possible and easier than the E86 as you could actually fit a secondary back box on the RHS at the rear.

Give Bret a call at Top Gear Performance in Doncaster and tell him John Mason told you to ring him. He will look after you and would cost circa £350 at a guess..

His number is 01302 337722.

John, did those guys also mod your E86 bumper?

They modded the original bumper for the original quad conversion but I fitted the carbon diffuser myself around the first quad conversion and then they built the second conversion in place with the carbon diffuser on... Trust that makes sense :)

If there's enough room right behind the bumper, just keep your OEM backbox and do something like this (picture below)

For better sound, open up the backbox and remove the insulation, re-weld... It will cost you some welding, 2 Y-shaped end tips and some pipes.
This way, you get the double exhaust look and backbox remains OEM. Off course you can choose for single end tips on each side as well, like the 35is

Must agree on the bumper though, would not paint it white, looks less sporty to me

That's how mine was done initially and then I changed it to do away with the T piece and have both sides piped directly. The second was the better and more fre-flowing option but will cost more money

You guys are great!
Thanks for all your help. Will keep posting updates on this threads as things start to happen with the car.
