Double Din Head unit

hey guys, been lurking a long while hunting down any M parts I can ( so far only the rear .. doing terribly ) so I decided to have a tinker around over Christmas and change something to get me back into the modifying feeling.

I have since owning the Z4 hated the stereo.. the way it looks, the way it operates and... i never had BT ! so it had to go..

I fitted a sony BT touch screen, wrapped a homemade adapter in black leather to match the seats and linked new speakers and a subwoofer up to it so I can actually say I have modified the car! I mean its a long way from my 350 but.. one day we may find facelift rear lights and a bloody elusive M sport front

First off, your 350Z is very cool!

Secondly, I like the double din unit, but what did you do about the heater vents? It looks pretty good and I bet it's better than the rubbish standard business unit.
 
Is that the mic down by the heater controls?

If so would be better placed on the steering column.

Why the change from the other zed?
 
yeah the mic is inside that panel that pops off under the heater controls so its just out the way and nothing is on show but the microphone tip... the heater unit behind has been blocked off and now the two side vents are like volcanos ... ( maybe a downside but I don't mind not having them two in the middle )

The 350Z was bought trashed up and not looked after but with a low mileage engine.. made it from a scrap heap to that and sold it on.. i put my mark on it and someone else gets to enjoy it lol
 
Looks good, did you get the adaptor CNC'd? Just wondering how you got such a neat fit?

One of my biggest issues with my coupe (excluding the ride quality) is the lack of a decent had unit with decent Bluetooth integration...

How is the quality of phone calls with your set up? The standard system is rubbish, everyone always complains when I call them as there is so much background noise.
 
i've a single din flip out screen and it still annoys me to this day i couldn't fit my old double din appradio in the car.

keep thinking if i bought two adapters could i fit one upside down somehow to make a double din fascia that didn't look out of place
 
I'd love to go double DIN but would want to keep the vents. Beyond me to make it though and not seen anything commercially available to do it.
 
If I'd not got sat nav, I'd thought same as ant an get two din adaptors an invert one, an get a couple of tweeter grills, one either said an pipe some of the air through from original vent, to be fair still might, an have 2 android screens, just to many house jobs at moment, wish was willing to have a go at the mechanical stuff to,
 
finally you have started modding! about time haha!

love the look of your old 350Z ..... cant wait to see what madness you bring to the Z4 :D
 
looks great! the standard system is really bad...can you provide any detail on how you did it, be tempted to do similar (just have a single din fitted currently)
