Door Speaker Grills

Experts will hopefully know this. My E86 has the boggo hifi system which does not have the speakers in the doors. It merely has the “fake?” grills (in black). I have purchased a set of BMW door speakers from the better OEM hifi and these just fit in the holes. However the grills for these are grey. The question is can I use my existing black grills please? Or do I need to find a new set of black…..

This is almost the question I came on to ask, so adding it here rather than start a new thread.

I also only have the standard system with blanks in the doors. If I want to add speakers there, is it a simple as finding the correct size speakers and installing them?
Is wiring in place, and is there anything else required?

They'll need to be spliced into the door tweeters.
Well, mine did, there was no loom for them in my boggo head unit car..
While you're in there, install some sticky foam insulation to the inside of the outer door skin  .

Even if there is what looks like a speaker connection there, it won't work as it is part of the fancy spec and works from the amp you won't have.
The speakers from behind the headrests will be a direct fit. If you ask one of the breakers on the forum you should be able to get them with a decent length of the speaker loom too.

If you are doing that, you are likely to have butchered your door membranes and should factor in for replacing those too.

Dont put foam insulation in the doors get some dynamat door skin. the foam will eventually fail come off and get trapped in the window sliders...
