Door Sound Deadening and Internal Lock Handle Replacement

Just as the title says – I recently pulled the door cards to replace the old, worn-out lock pull handles with second-hand ones and took the opportunity to add some sound deadening to the doors and the back of the door cards.

Took me about 3 hours total for both sides, working slowly and carefully. No need to disconnect the airbag – just hang it securely using a zip tie on one of the upper door clips.

For sound deadening, I used the Amazon Basics Car Sound Deadener (14.5" x 10" flat sheets, pack of 10). This was plenty to cover both doors and the back of the door cards – with two sheets left over, which I used in the boot. I didn’t go for full coverage on the door cards like some do; instead, I focused on covering the flat sheet metal inside the doors.

This product is more of a vibration dampener than a full-on soundproofing material, so you don’t need 100% coverage to eliminate those high-frequency tinny vibrations.

The result?

Doors feel noticeably heavier when you swing them shut.
The closing sound has transformed from a tinny rattle to a deep, satisfying thunk.
Windows now go up and down silently – seriously impressive.
I’m genuinely very pleased – didn’t think it would make this much of a difference. Would love to go further and lay some under the cabin carpet or inside the wheel arches, but that looks like a job for another day...

Cheers!
