Door mirrors permanently heated?

I have a 2007 Z4M Coupe and noticed last night that the door mirrors seem to be heated all the time. I put my had out to wipe the mirror whist stuck in traffic and was suprised how hot it was, I checked the rear screen and it wasn;t switched on (hadn't been at all since the begining of my trip).

Is this correct, seems s bit strange to me....

Thanks,
Darren.

Does the car automatically heat the exterior mirrors once the temperature drops below 3, i.e. the OBC beeps? Or only when you turn on the heated rear screen?

yup normal, permanently heated. I had also assumed that it would only be heated with the rear window heater but alas no.

I think that's what the damn mirrors keep falling off!

(Well, once, and after a long time, but that doesn't sounds as dramatic)

Not permanently heated... but heating starts when temp drops below 3 degrees C, or whenever the wipers are used. When that's happened the heating stays on until you switch off the engine. The idea is to remove fog (temp related) and droplets (rain related).

From the Manual

Automatic heating*
Both exterior mirrors are automatically heated
when the engine is running or the ignition is
switched on.

If exterior mirros are always heated regardless of external temperature and heated rear screen, the electricity used should not be that much.

Yeah, I guess it will be minimal. Haven't ever stuck my hand out of the window to check to be honest...

Cue Z4 owners driving around windows down feeling their door mirrors - me included. Didn't even realise they were heated - and they are!
