Door mirror help

Only had her for two days but I noticed the wing mirrors are different. The driver's side is flat clear glass I can actually see a good reflection from. I assume it is a replacement. The passenger side has a plastic lip so I suppose it is original, but it is tinted and I can hardly see anything when I reverse which is really annoying me. Is this a normal factory fitting or has someone changed it?

The plastic lip denotes it is an auto dimming one. Much rarer.
Therefore I'd guess the other side broke and got replaced with a standard one.
The way the photo-chromatic element seems to work is that it requires power to go lighter.
Therefore it is also possible that someone has fitted a dimming mirror in error to a non-dimming equipped car.
The simplest solution would be to replace the LH mirror with a standard one, and swap your cover over to keep the correct colour.
You'd probably then be able to sell the auto dim one for more.

Just had a rummage through the boxes in the shed.
Could help you out if you want to swap the LH to standard.

The mirrors fall off at random times without any warning. If one goes the other will.

If they do fall off and you don't manage to catch the mirror you'll get replacements on the eBay.

Thanks to Martin I can now see where I am reversing! I unscrewed the lower base plate of the mirror to release the old one, didn't want to risk damaging the paint and now the world is bright once again! the mirror is the same as an M3 according to this
