Yes sure if it helps remember to put all removed screws in a pot so you dont lose any use pry tools were possible so not to mark anything after removing door card unplug everything except the air bag unbolt but do not unplug remove as much of butyl tape as possible but make a note of positioning of it some wires are covered by tape be careful not to cut any.If you dont have sound deadening now would be the time to add it.I added it to back of door cards as well around speakers etc on application of membranes cut a slit in air bag position and feed airbag through then reassemble in reverse need any other advice feel free to ask

Ive got a bulk pack of SilentCoat 2mm so hopefully that should be good deadening wise. I was going to unplug the battery then disconnect the airbag as I didn't really fancy an airbag to the face. How did you secure it so its not hanging by the wire off the door while you were doing the sound deadening.

I disconnected mine - by the time you've wrestled the old butyl off 30 mins will have passed, so might as well disconnect the battery before this then pop the airbag off the car - makes things slightly easier and you don't have to enlarge the slit.

just taped it inside door you can disconnect battery and unplug just easy to leave connected up to you

The tips that Kev gave you regarding keeping the bolts in a pot is a good one.

His where in the grass, the budgie cage, the wheelie bin and in Julie’s bra....took ages to find them...

Never had a problem with tape just kept it in a cool place before fitting just dont leave in direct sunlight will suffice]

Hope you dont mind me hijacking your thread Kev. I made a start on my door upgrades today and by golly I had no idea how much of an arts and crafts project this was going to be.

So I managed to get the doors apart easy enough, looking at the membranes the passengers side was still fully intact (until i touched it) I could spot where the leak was just at the bottom by the screw to the window regulator the tape was not sticky and it had never bonded to the door membrane (looks like its been like this since new)

So after tearing all of the old membrane away and fighting with the butyl sticky stuff for an hour I get the door cleaned up new wires for the additional speaker soldered in and its looking pretty sweet. that tip about cutting the tape into 1m sections was brilliant and keeping it in the freezer on a day like this was ace.

Passengers door Done looking sexy just got to finish off the sound deadening on the door card then im good to reassemble that side.


Has anyone got any tips on making the templates for the door cards as mine is looking more like #MyFirstArtProject!! Is anyone nerdy enough to have made CAD templates for the pockets in the door cards that I can print out and trace around.
