door leak

Hi,

my passenger door leaks, letting in a small amount of water into the foot well like this:

I have read lots of people saying it is the door membrane - I have taken it to my mechanic who assures me he has fixed all the membrane and it is still leaking. Any ideas?

Cheers,

T

The garage I bought mine from assured me he had fixed it too, they just gaffer taped it up and it started leaking at the first sign of rain.
I ended up taking the door panel off, and sealing the membrane with bathroom sealant AND gaffer tape and it's been fine since.

He wanted to use sealant on the inside of my door - but I know for a fact he only used gaffer tape on the actual membrane - u think using sealant will sort it?

I went over any tears and gaps with the sealant, then covered that with the gaffer tape.
The worst bit was round the bottom front of the door membrane where it was ripped to shreds. This seems to be where the water mostly comes in so I really went to town with the sealant and the gaffer tape, it's been fine since. Some really heavy rain and no leaks!

I have the exact same problem in the exact same place. My passengers end up with webbed feet :o

Anyone have any pictures on exactly where they uesed the sealant and tape please?

Purchased my Zed May this year and had exactly the same issue passenger side. Main Stealer informed me this was not covered under warranty but as It was only June, a month after buying the car they replaced the membrane (a £35 job) for free out of goodwill , no issues since and I live up north and boy it rains :D

Mine is also the passenger side, and for £35 it would be better to get it replaced. (I take it that it was only £35 and that wasn't a typo)...

Next question: Where can I get the membrane? :?

i hate to say it but unless you know of a good repair shop the stealer is your next move :!:

I have exactly the same problem with my passenger door leaking in the same place. My local stealer has replaced the membrane. However, they did a bodge job and it started leaking again soon after. Took it in again and they re-sealed it but it's now leaking again! £120 an hour labour and they can't even fit a door membrane properly! Got it booked in for next tuesday so hopefully third time lucky. If it leaks again I'll do it properly myself.

Yeah £35 no typo, that was Liverpool Williams my local stealer!

I think you've only paid for the part there? I paid 90 odd quid to have mine replaced at my local stealer. £35 for the membrane plus half hour labour charge.

This is happening with my 55 plate 2.5, but it only seems to do it if the car is parked on a slight nose down attitude, as it appears to be quite a common problem, i may have a look at doing something about it, other than what i do now .......dont park nose down

I think the problem is with Bmw's design which involves channeling the water through the door. If there is any weakness in the membrane you're going to end up with a footwell full of water whenever it rains!

Yeah I think youre right I just got charged for the part not the labour, probably because I was really pissed at the fact Id only had the car a month before having a water feature on my footwell
