This afternoon returned to my zed and the drivers door handle wont open the door it opens from the inside with the interior handle so for now im climbing across to open the door! Has anyone had this problem before until ive got time to remove the door panel i will be entering my zed a rather unconventional way. Also does anyone have a how to for removing the door panel!

It will possibly be the cable from the outer handle to the door latch assembly, broken or stretched.I had to buy one, it cost about £6 from BMW.

Did you fit it yourself?

Not yet, as mines fine atm.It played up once.Take your door panel off and have a look to see where the cable joins the latch assembly and make sure it's pulling the latch lever that releases the latch/catch. I will be changing my cable soon as i already have it now, i just have to wait until the weather warms up! It's minus 5 C out there now! :(

Ive had the inside door panel off this morning and cant locate the problem as i cant see inside the door properly taking it to an indy tomorrow morning so he can have a look. BMW quoted me £55 just to look at it!

after a little more research it seems to make the job a lot easier access wise you need two special tools from BMW, first one is part no 513260 @ £8.55 plus vat and the second one part no 513250 @£44.10 plus vat only trouble is they will not sell me the second, more expensive tool as its BMW use only obviosly another way they want you to go to them and get it done!

yes i think so, ive just come back from the indy i use and its booked in for next wednesday he has had a quick look at it but needs to strip the door handle and mechanism down to find the problem.

Can you let us know what the problem is/was.

The problem was the cable between the door handle and the mechanism was snapped new one was £16.80 and a couple of hours labour at the independent i use all is sorted now apart from the drive home when the passenger side headlight washer cover flew off never to be seen again! Does anyone know how much this part is from the stealers cheers.

Part is dirt cheap, but you need to have it sprayed, although I'm sure I read somewhere you can pay a lot (like £30) and order it prepainted. Can of aerosol and then clearcoat lacquer would do for something so small

I paid around £6 for my cable from my local BMW dealer. :o

same problem as my post just last week

anyway good info, so far haven't gotten to have a look myself, given what you guys have shared, i'm afraid off to the stealers again :x

melbs, try and find an independent BMW specialist a lot cheaper and in most cases a lot more trust worthy ive now got two that i use which are fairly local to me both are superb and there knowledge is brilliant.

Happened to me last summer with the top down and windows down Could not open the drivers door from the outside or inside. I crawled across from the passenger side and drove away. Everything worked after I rolled up the window..... for about a week. Fortunately, the car is a CPO and it was covered, so the dealer fixed it for the basic $50 fee. They indicated it was the cable plus a few other, unknown to me, deteriorated parts (their words).
