I think the difference is he's putting it out there on the internet (and now the telly) for anyone to see, be influenced by and potentially copy him and die doing so.

The gene pool needs thinning out, sorry Carol, I have no sympathy as most I knew when young knew where to draw the line

As for hitting someone below, they're well away from others & have observers
 
I'm thinking of other dangerous sports where you could be considered 'an idiot'

- boxing
- solo round the world yatching
- pot holing
- flying those winged suits through objects
- climbing Everest

List is endless, just in terms of logic, what's the difference as endangers yours & others lives...
 
I take a slightly different viewpoint to him really.

We all to a greater or lesser extent have a need to push ourselves to the limit and beyond. For some people danger and risk is what makes them tick. He is just one of those people.

He's only an idiot if he doesn't understand the risk and the consequences, which in this case he clearly does. Not everyone has a desire to grow old, draw a pension, and relax in a comfy chair being waited on by grandchildren. Is that wrong?

I loved his comment about it all being in your head, that a pull-up 10 feet off the ground takes the same strength and skill, and is exactly the same, as one 100 feet of the ground... And then his expression said 'oh, wait a minute...' :lol:

Heart in my mouth the whole way through, but I enjoyed the programme :thumbsup:
 
If he was an orphan then it's only himself he hurts if he falls, felt sorry for his mother as her life would be a wreck if he had an accident. She brought him into this world, as a single mother it wouldn't have been without sacrifice to get him where he is now & to see him effectively play russion roulette like he did ......................selfish.

Exactly how I feel, he's totally selfish.
 
Hmm. . .

Amazing feat really - it's a shame we can't find a way for such people to find fulfilment or find another way of feeling good about themselves.

I was tense all the way through the high scenes and needed to read and relax after the show but even so I was impressed (and I choose that word deliberately)

Consequences being certain death if they fell or made a mistake - I was amazed and impressed as well as horrified! I flew microlights and on a sliding scale (and somewhere way left of their score!) I did feel that my life was in my hands - especially on my first solo when I had to go around!!!. . . still did it though. I also had a Dutch driver look the wrong way and pull out on me whilst on a dual carriageway doing 60 on my motorbike - bike a write off - my son (!!!!) and myself survived. Do such possibilities stop us doing things?

What other recourse might they have to such a challenge? Anyone any ideas what else they could do that would be thought 'legal' 'more reasonable' and be more acceptable yet offer that feeling?

I think we need Dizz to psycho analyze him.
He spent 2 years in his room more or less and was an outsider at school.
He climbs, I think, as it distances him from people and makes him feel detached from the world.
Missed my calling, me. :D
 
I used to have to work off metal structures years ago as a electrician with no complaints 25 feet or 100 feet up on 4inch wide girders a long with other trades .you fall from that height you are dead anyway.
hes got some bottle ,we all get our kicks in so many different ways
