but I keep looking at this. Not the best colour but looks a very tidy example and has a 'sprint conversion'.
Prices are on the rise aswell

Sprints had the 16v Dolly Sprint motor so worth checking that out well...
To be honest, nothing classic is doing well...TR range has fallen like a stone over the last 18 months...
Even TR5's are dropping

Yeah. That one has a 'sprint conversion', so the 16v engine has been added. Original factory sprints are as rare as hen's teeth, as they only made a few.

Yes I've always liked the convertible TR7 and compared to other classics like MGBs seem a bit of a bargain.

I had one as my daily in the early nineties. It was fun for a young lad at the time, but I wouldn’t have one now. It was not much more than 10 years old and the sills had rotted away at the corners already. I doubt there would be much metal left today. Mine was a sprint conversion - dolly head with twin carbs. It made me very respectful of RWD in the days before traction control.

Oh I would love a TR5, in my impetuous youth (32 years young), I purchased a 1973 MGB but should have been more patient and got a TR5, hey ho 😆

The convertibles look much better than the Coupes (unlike Z4s!) but despite the draw of the troublesome Sprint engine I just couldn't get over the beige/tan colour combo!

I had an inca yellow TR7 coupe that I bought in 88 for £300. That colour attracted flies for some reason. Got lots of fun out if it until the sills rotted out. Its headlamp dip switch burst into flames when the pop up headlamps seized up. That didn’t impress the girlfriend at the time! Fixed it with a second hand switch and a short section of loom after the AA relay truck got us home. I then ragged it around for another couple of years. Had some cooling problems but sorted them with a head gasket change and a larger capacity rad. The number plate was UHP 960R. UHP = Ultra High Performance (not!). I wouldn’t swap my Z for one now, but they still have a certain appeal especially a Sprint or V8 conversion.

As a grumpy old man, you might not have time for this post-millennial, but he is surprisingly articulate and knowledgeable for a yoo-choober. You might find his videos to be quite entertaining if you're as nerdy as me about cars:

Surely, you are not serious, Andy. The American market caused British Leyland (BL) to design this monstrosity. Those bumpers were awful when new and are still so. What an appalling design following on from the previous TR series, especially the wonderful TR6. A few things caused the demise of BL and this was one of them.

The passing of years won't have made it any better. My first thought with Triumphs is how many tin cans have been added over the tears. Having said that my brothers girlfriend had a Herald Vitesse in the 80s and the engine was buttery smooth.

The only Triumph I hankered after was a TR6 but really my senses got the better of me.

Tim.

Oh Dear Andy! I did think you were a man of taste. What happened to the prospective TVR?😧😧😧
All still in the mix. I have a bit of a 'thing' for 1970s wedge styling. I think the TR7 looks cool, in a 1970s way.
I look at multiple cars everyday, from Spitfires to DB9s and everything in between. I would love a DB7 Volante, but the running costs are just too high. Parts are ridiculously expensive.
I will probably get nothing at present, as garage space is a problem. I do have a plan to build another double garage at the side of the house and turn my front garden into a driveway. Not sure if the Council will like it, though, as it involves removing a few 'precious' trees! Conservation area (God knows why) so I am at their mercy.

I think people are too worried to spend frivolously with this tax budget coming up. Dead right about TR5 never seen them this cheap, gonna hang on to my TR6 for a few years yet
