Don't Ignore The Beeps!

I was backing into my parking spaces at home last night, I usually put the Z4 at the back so the Focus can go at the front. So I'm happily reversing, confident that I've done this a hundred times, I know exactly what I'm doing... the PDC beeps seem a bit louder tonight, but that'll just be the posts at the side that I know I'm avoiding, the other car isn't there and I know the space is completely empty CRUNCH!

Cue 5 seconds of utter bewilderment as I try to work out in my head what on earth I could have reversed into while jumping out of the car to have a look. Upon finding a small skip just below the height of my boot, I then spend 10 seconds asking which £&%$ put a skip in my parking spaces, until it dawns on me that the lady at home mentioned the builders were going to start work in the garden that day. Must be theirs. The realisation that there was no one to blame but myself was quite saddening. I'm trying to blame the Mrs regardless....

Lesson learnt, always pay attention to the beeps, sometimes they can see more than you can!

Luckily I was only edging back so the damage doesn't appear as bad as first feared.

What do we think? Respray needed? There is also a VO boot up for sale nearby for £180 - does anyone know if they're straightforward to replace? I'm guessing they are not.

Bollocks Will, worst thing when you’re used to doing things multiple times over and don’t think the warnings apply  done similar many times.

What about a small boot lip spoiler like the one Peter’s got? Hopefully it’d be big enough to cover the damage. You could use a touch up pen before installing to keep rust at bay.

Re the swap over, I take it it’s a bare boot lid without the soft close etc? If so might be a bit of a pita swapping as I’ve seen people complaining about doing the soft close repair.

The boot lid for sale is pictured still attached to the car with everything on it, so I'll need to enquire to find out what's included. I thought about the lip spoiler, but I'm not sure it will come down low enough to cover it - I suppose for £50 I might as well get one and try it out.

If everything is included I would think a reasonably easy exchange then, hinges and disconnect/reconnect the wiring harness.

I’m sure Peter would measure the spoiler he has to see if it’ll fit before you buy

If its not dented most of the damage should be able to be removed with a polish, other than the deeper scratches.
All the blue paint marks should come off as I take it the skip was blue.

Ooh No! Stupid boy Pike. (But you knew that already) I drove my ///MR in to Mrs G's Mx5 on our drive once. Just a rub of bumpers. Such scrapes are easily mended. Try getting MrsG to forget it though.

Did a similar thing when I went to the Belgian F1 a couple of years ago..parking was being offered in private gardens..had beeps going off everywhere from low shrubs around the lawns we were parked on..reverses into a neo-Victorian garden faux street lamp…it was pushed over by about 30 degrees..had a sizeable mark on the bumper..it polished out…didn’t confess to the owner about the collateral damage…

I’m sure the mammoth parking fee would more than cover for any “alterations” caused :P

My beep ignoring error was reversing her ladyships 335 into soft folliage - there was a wooden gate opened and muggins here didn’t see it . There remains a 30mm long vertical crease in the bumper.
She never mentions if of course!

Probably wasn’t his most profitable day but at 15 euros and about 20 cars that would cover most of it…I was going to take a piccy but decided to scoot … :tumbleweed: :driving:

Ouch! Had an issue a week ago with my daily (Mercedes E220) somewhere (familiar) where I totally need to rely on the sensors to manouvre a really tight space. Despite creeping back at snails pace, the sensors (audio & visual) lagged so much that I hit the wall before they responded. Thankfully no damage but still left wondering why it happened.

Thanks for the suggestions, and I'm glad I'm not the only one! It's particularly annoying as it's the first time I've ever reversed into something - all the eBay &%$£boxes stayed pristine (or at least no more bashed up than when I got them) for years, now I have something decent I forget how to drive.

I'll probably try getting it polished out at some point and see how it comes up.

It's so annoying - I did exactly the same in a car park in my E46 Compact. Luckily my bumper hit someone's wheel so no damage to the other car.

Maybe if it doesn't all polish out someone like Chips Away could tidy it up?

Although not exactly my fault, I hit some röad debris that i couldn’t avoid and it made a small notch in the front spoiler.

The damage is now covered in carbon fibre and looks better in my opinion. I was well brassed off when it happened tho!

Whereabouts are you Tiglon? If you're local (East London/Essex) I've got a DA polisher

Thanks Jason, that's a really kind offer. I'm up on the Suffolk border so it's a bit of a trek.
