Don't have a Dremmel for Cruise control fitting

Hi guys,

I have just received the cruise control stalk through the post. But alas I don't have a dremmel.

Could I use scisssors or at best a Stanley Knife for the cowl?

I'm still at work, so I have not got round to fitting it yet.

I fitted mine before I'd bought a Dremmel type thingy and got on fine with a sharp Stanley knife. I used a fine file and some wet n dry paper to finish off the edge neatly, but that was being pedantic...

Do you need to have a perfect finish? Can the finish be hidden in anyway?

Eitherway, decided, I'm gonna pop into lidl/Aldi and look for a dremmel today.

The cut line is visible so do it properly or you'll regret it for ever.

Sharp stanley knife taking care not to slip and slash a wrist or embed it in your thigh would be ok. Finish with a file and sandpaper if you'r elimited on tools.

....or drop it to me and I'll do it in 10 mins for you
 
if you cant get hold of one and ur in newcastle the aldi in westerhope might have them. i can pick one up for you and meet you somewhere unless you drive over yourself.
 
Just a few pointers from when I did mine.

Number one and most important BE PATIENT!

2. I covered the cowl around the markings with a few layers of electricians tape just to be safe.

3. I cut about 1-2mm inside of the line and it seems to fit tighter leaving no gaps. The safest way I found was to follow the old woodwork teachers saying ‘you can always take more off; you can’t put it back on’. I never thought I learned anything in woodwork but hey I guess I was wrong. :P

4. For the rounded corners I cut fairly close but then used the sanding barrels on the dremmel to finish off the curve.

Not meaning to teach you to suck eggs or anything, just the pointers that I found helped :thumbsup:
