I am just thankful that we live in a society that, we the electorate, can choose. If we think they are clowns, then don't vote for them.
I'm old enough to remember when Ronald Reagan was challenging for the Republican nomination, he was mocked and scorned for being nothing more than a Hollywood cowboy and a bit of a joke, but he proved to be one of the most successful Presidents since the war. Sometimes those who are thought to be great game changers prove to be nothing special at all when they get elected (remember how the world was going to change when Obama was first elected?)

Any thing that politically puts the cat amongst the pigeons gets my vote, 
I don't really like the fella ,to be as successful as him you have to be a mega s**t of the first order but on the plus side he made Alex Salmond look like a prat and played him like fish over the infamous golf course that has destroyed areas of outstanding natural beauty in Scotland :thumbsdown: ,and salmond let it happen , 
I love the fact that the politically correct liberal left in the U.S. are all beating themselves up if Trump gets in ,again brilliant and they look at each other saying why are the public supporting Trump , well it's because the public have finally cottoned to the fact that most politicians are lying thieving cheating tossers in it for their own ends who think we the general public are no more than a bad smell that has to be tolerated , I think it's hilarious, let's have more ,
And don't think Hilary Clinton is all purity and light , again she's a chip off the same block as trump in having a rabid desire for success, remember her email fiasco which is wholly illegal in US Politics .thats been forgotten about .

There is currently an FBI investigation into the e-mail issue that could be her undoing but it is being underplayed by the media.Tricky Dicky said:

Actually I think he is a well reasoned and considered orator. I really don't know what people's problem with him is. It seems to me there are too many small minded people around who should look closer to home before slagging off someone to whom they obviously feel inferior.
His policies seem well structured, properly thought out, and totally reasonable.

Not going to deny that I'm ignorant and don't follow politics enough to make my vote based on anything more than "he/she looks like they can get things done," but I'm with George carlin on the pesidential elections :lol: I know enough to realize there is no such thing as the perfect president because my government is f*cked

Xaixio makes a good point regarding Trumps 'honesty'. Most Americans (and us Brits) are fed up with 'sound bite' politicians who's statements are pre-tested on sample voters. You end up with a puppet who's strings are pulled by advisors and political analysts, and its quite obvious that you're not getting a real person's opinions.
Trump is saying pretty much what he thinks, and is connecting with voters because of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm appalled at most of what the guy says, but I believe the American people are voting for him because they see a 'real person' standing up and saying what he believes, and that can be very intoxicating.

I would argue the opposite, Salmond let him build his golf course which is a boost for tourism then plopped a bunch of wind farms around it and told him to gtf.
It is important to remember that the current race is solely for the nomination of candidate NOT the presidential election so the support that Trump is seeing is from people entirely within the Republican Party in the US, which is the "right" of american politics with a large dose of arguably extreme religion thrown in. When that is taken into account the things Trump is saying isnt all that surprising and realistically its loosely the same across all of his competitors. Trump is currently politicking for the favor of the right wing religious Republican Party and that is where these extreme statements are coming from. (Clinton is doing the same at the opposite end of the political spectrum). Once this phase is over and the actual presidential race starts you will likely see a tempering of language to appeal to a more general audience.
Trump has in the past (Oct 8 1999 to CNN) has said "I’m a registered Republican. I’m a pretty conservative guy. I’m somewhat liberal on social issues, especially health care, etc" so he isnt or at least wasnt as fundamental as he currently appears. He has also said (Sept 30 1999 in Wall street Journal)"I am convinced the major parties have lost their way. The Republicans are captives of their right wing. The Democrats are captives of their left wing. I don’t hear anyone speaking for the working men and women in the center." Granted at this stage that was a long time ago and its generally the case people get more conservative as they get older but still!
I dont like the guy, I dont like what he says, but I also appreciate that he isnt stupid, he knows how to play people and that is exactly what he is doing now.
