Doing the Angry Cop exhaust...

Hey folks, thought I'd share my new exhaust system with you guys, it's inspired by a member called Angry Cop on the zpost forums from 2012. It consists of: Backbox out, Silencer/Resonator out, and replaced with a centre mounted magnaflow muffler, pipes back to tips.

Results sound pretty mental if I do say so, utterly bonkers how much rasp and splutter it puts out. Drone wise, it's slightly louder than stock at 70mph. Above 3k revs and obviously accelerating through the gears fast it's quite darn loud. I'm going to dynamat under my seats and boot and see if that helps a bit. It's no where near as bad as a backbox delete though.

Here's a little test video I filmed today, I'm going to do a better one with more drive-bys etc next week as I didn't have much time today, and it's windy as **** today. Enjoy!

Well I like it, but maybe because a previous owner of my car had a custom cat-back system fitted.

After hearing one with a back-box delete last month I'd say it's pretty restrained!

I had a backbox delete done by 1st Performance & Exhausts in the Fine City of Norwich 3 weeks ago. Craig there did a great job.

My experience is that it is loud, very loud under hard acceleration, pops burbles when I want it to but for constant speed driving is only a little louder than a standard set up. As for drone, there is a knob on the dashboard that allows me to reduce the drone - bloody music is loud though!

I tested the overall noise last weekend when I had to go up to Norwich again to see STR for 4 wheel alignment. so took my wife and she fell asleep both ways so it's too bad.

That sounds pretty fruity at low rpm. Quite like the growly noise. I’ve got an Eisenmann race on my e86 and it’s quite a bit less growly than that. It is probably more ‘tuned’, as you can hear noticeable steps in the sound volume and note as revs rise. Good effort.

Sounds quite throaty.

Here's what the Supersprint that I put on my previous car sounds like for comparison:

This is mine with middle cats removed and single 2.5” pipe all the way to a stainless backbox cut right down . In my opinion without a backbox they sound a big tractor like at certain revs at it takes away the 6 cylinder noise . Yours sounds better than a backbox delete to me but still sounds like it’s strangling that noise I like a bit .

Edit : never mind can’t figure out how to upload a video .

Edit again . Think Iv got it

The M54 is so much more throatier than the refined N52.

Hello,

Were you satisfied with the sound off the Supersprint race ?
Do you think it's a good idea for a daily use or it's too much compared to the Supersprint power loop?

Thanks a lot

Looking back at it, it’s only worth it if you want to keep the car long term.

It sounds great under full chat but around town the drone from the Y-pipe can be overbearing at times. (Sometimes you can even feel the resonance in the cabin). This can be managed by changing gear however but there were times when I wanted to drive the car slowly yet people could hear me from a couple of roads away due to the exhaust.

Supersprint systems aren’t exactly cheap either, and unless you’re changing the headers there are no performance gains to be made.

Put it this way, if I were to ever buy an E86 again, I would probably debaffle the muffler and weld-in some new pipework as opposed to buying a brand new SS. And if I were to buy an SS, I would get one second hand, and then take it off when I sell the car (in theory enabling me to have an aftermarket exhaust for free).

I also wouldn’t recommend a Powerloop muffler as you will be paying top money for not much difference in sound.

Oh and in regards to your daily comment, no offence but I couldn’t daily one of these even in stock form. They’re great second/weekend cars though...

Very nice... was always a fan of this mod. FWIW if you find the volume to be fatiguing at some point, I'd recommend going with inline mini race mufflers to remove some of that edginess. One thing I learned over the years is that the coupe ironically brings in more cabin noise because of how things resonate and bounce around. The roadster provides better sound dampening when the top is folded down.

This is before/after comparo of my 3" catless setup. First one was absolutely bonkers but my ears would actually start ringing after long trips:

This is after I changed things up and installed a different muffler. Point being you can have your cake and eat it it if you pick the right components.
