Doing a swap from my X5 04 to a Z4 05, advice?

Hi guys, been following the forums for a while and some of those great youtube videos out there that keep mentioning this forum.

I have a Diesel 2004 x5 with about 116000 miles on it, and since I want a smaller car I have been looking at Z4 for a while, and last night a guy sent a message about possibly doing a swap (such weird coincidence), its a 2005 petrol Z4 2 liter with 113000 miles on it, partial service and new MOT, he also wants to pay 800£ in cash for the swap. Overall the car seems fine from the pictures ive seen, meeting him today at 5 pm for a closer look.

What I would like to ask, what do you guys think of this swap? is there something special to look out for?

Thanks for any advice and replies,

Best,
Tommy

Unless there's a particular reason you want the 2ltr I would hold out for a 3ltr or 2.5ltr. Although there are members who love their 2ltrs and have no issues, they aren't as reliable as the 3ltr and are prone to throw up engine management warning lights that are difficult to diagnose and fix (I had this issue in my previous Zed which was a 2ltr). Do a search on here for more info.
Welcome btw :)

OP is it definitely a 2.0? I didn't think they made them till 2005. I suspect it might actually be 2.2 inline 6 cylinder rather than the 2.0 4 pot. If that's the case reliabity isn't an issue but with the price differential these days between a 2.2, 2.5 and the 3.0 being so small, I'd be hanging on for one of the bigger engines.

Ah you are right, its an 05, I will fix the message. Thanks for the advice, I will take that into consideration. :D

Hi and welcome by the way.

I'm guessing your X5 will have at least a 3 litre engine, so you might be a bit underwhelmed by a 2.0 litre Z4.

And after all a straight 6 engine is one of the E85 Z4's unique features. :)

On a personal note, I would highly recommend the 3.0 straight six, beautiful smooth engine.
My main car is an X5 3.0d so I'm very fortunate to have both.
Hope this helps.

Too late, he's bought the 2.0.

But I know what you mean about straight 6's as I've got 2, but they're both petrol N52 engines!
