Fair point Luxy! Although don't confuse my love of my M with a love of BMW!

I still love you OG even if you do hate all that is Audi

I love you too Luxy! Oh and I don't hate all of them. [whispers "I'd like a mint B7 RS4 tucked away in my garage"]

To add fuel to the flames...
I had a 57 reg Audi A5 as a company car for 4 years. When the lease was up i got a 1 series. The lease costs a 1/4 less per quarter And i prefer it, including its interior!

I had a 1 series before my first e89 and loved it, interior is nice (exterior is love it or hate it, and most hate it)
But your comparing a old 57 plate A5 to a newer BMW there.

Cost wise it's obviously going to be less its a smaller car group.

......has this thread been hijacked would you say?? :D

Feeling much better now, and I thought it was only me who ended up having scraps with the other keyboard warriors on here

I don't know who cited the TT as being a car that handles well. It's a rubbish drive, all the excitement and dynamics of a sponge.

Your not thinking if the old TT are you :poke:

Nope my brother had the latest shape 3.2 V6 PDK and he sold it within a year as it bored him to tears.

Doesn't sound like a car enthusiast then :poke:

Then he should know better not to behave as one!

Well I won't if you agree to stop posting half-baked theories about BMW decline when they are posting record results. Deal?
Blimey there you go again with the "half-baked" criticism. Let's see if that holds up:

Mine's the same. This sort of design detail and build is why Audi have inexorably 'hunted down' BMW over the years. Audis, I'm afraid, are engineered much more 'elegantly' and built a damn sight better - once they dynamically match BMW and 'excite' as much it may spell an inexorable decline for BMW unless they up their game.

The above is what started it all. I have stated that I believe Audi's rise over the years to close the gap on BMW (or do you contend this as well?) is to do with their attention to detail and engineering elegance. You seem to agree it's not down to their dynamic abilities and, if you read my original post further, you will see that I agree with that. If it's not the dynamic abilities of the cars what is it? So, half-baked theory, I think not. Quite credible actually. Now if, as I stated, Audi could further up their game to match the dynamics and excitement of their BMW rivals then BMW could be in big trouble unless they respond. Again, half-baked theory? I think not.

Now, as I've stated before, you can disagree with this by posting alternative views for debate but just labelling things as anything from codswallop to half-baked when they are clearly not does not a mature discussion make.

I'm pretty sure when you meet someone for the first time you don't tell them, face-to-face, that their first discourse with you is "codswallop" and then go on to challenge any other statement as "nonsense" etc., even if you believe it to be so (and even if it patently is), so why do it on a forum? Particularly when the statements are actually credible!

So the deal is, keep the language at a mature level, debate objectively and then we can all get along just fine. Just to be clear, I am quite happy to be challenged on anything I post but would ask that those challenges are kept civil.

My mate recently sold his TT ... 4 years old, 20k odd miles. The TT replaced a stunning but slow 2.0i 3 series. He's just sold it and bought back into BMW due to numerous reasons. Primarily these being of reliability ... The dsg box started playing up, it was drinking oil, the window mech broke, it kept cutting out when in neutral, the dash lights kept playing up, it under steered, and he had no trust in it :(

I've driven a brand new a5 quattro - and it was nice, but so boring and gutless.

Anyway just my short experience of Audi to chip in with. Sure the RS models would be great, but so are the price tags.

Look let's be clear your original comment (engineering elegance and being built a darn sight better) was passed off as fact. It isn't. It's an opinion and I believe it to be wrong on both counts. Which is also an opinion. I called it codswallop because you said it as if it were some well known truth. It isn't.

Why has Audi grown 'inexorably'? Because they have actually started to compete more effectively in every segment, and creating new segments and they have benefitted from rapid wealth growth in China and Russia, as the other two have. By competing more effectively I mean having a direct competitor to BMW and Mercedes in every category, by competing on price and performance and economy. All three of BMW, Merc and Audi have grown inexorably but Audi had greater ground to make up. The hardest part for them will be taking the lead. It certainly isn't because of any tangible product superiority over the other two. If anything it is because of their greater financial muscle being part of a much larger corporation (including VW, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda etc). Remember BMW and Mercedes are 'independents'. All three achieved record sales in 2013. If anyone is doing the catching up at the moment it is Mercedes as they will probably overtake Audi and move into no 2 position during 2014.

;) He loves cars, just not ones that are boring to drive like he found the TT to be. :D

I've only ever driven an audi A7 which I'd considered a while back. Lovely looking, didn't rate the build that much better than the BMW 5 series I also drove etc. If it drove a bit better I'd have an A7 now but it didn't, it was indeed quite boring. I'd have the 5 series no problem as that drove so much better, but arguably doesn't look as nice to me. Hey ho, all in the eye of the doo dah...

I agree Gary was just pulling your leg :) I've owned a couple of Audis prior to BMWs and yes they're more boring to drive but I've found the quality simply superior, it's down to what your requirements are and what's more important. As marques I like both makes and like Lux can see the plus and minus points of both makes during long term ownership.

CAROL my earlier comment was a tongue in cheek one and not aimed at you personally but generally.

Your problem with me is you read my comments as a personal dig which I get a little tired of. You dont like me I get that for which I'm not bothered in the least. How about giving it a rest making me out as being Mr bad guy on this forum? that is what makes you ridiculous if you continue on.

Live and let live hey Carol

If you keep putting your name in capitals at the end of certain posts then I know, as do most regulars, you are aiming them at me.
I'm referring to this thread....
http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=58728&start=30
If you are just generalising then you wouldn't capitalise your name.

It's nothing to do with not liking you, I don't know you but I don't like how you behave towards me on this forum and some of the things you've said. As another member pointed out, you do 'give me a hard time' over and above other people on here and wondered if it may be because I'm female or the colour of my car. I personally think its the former.
So, if you would like me to stop thinking some of your comments are digs at me I suggest you stop making them look like they are by not capitalising your name.
