Does you're garage floor get dirty?

Now THAT is a garage! :thumbsup:

Luckily, despite living in a new-build house, my garage is extra wide and extra long (2.5m of space behind the Z4) - I even manage to fit my van in it. I sealed the floor then painted it using proper garage floor paint and it's OK. However, it's lifted where the wheels sit so related to the pressure exerted by the tyres. If I was starting again I'd just stick to sealing the floor to prevent dust and leaving it at that.

A previous car - bought the floor paint to match the car colour :oops:

The paint lifting is usually caused by the tyres still being hot and sticky and bonding the the paint. Used to do it to mine if I drove straight in 'hot'
 
you could put some rubber matts on the floor where your wheels go? it might mean less painting :D
 
Lino and similar is a real bad idea as if you brake it can slide with expensive results. Try it :poke:

Biggest problem with any garage floor is if you have to turn the wheels to get in and out, as I have to, which rucks up any sort of flooring. If you can go straight in and out then it's simpler. Costco do a great metal surfaced floor covering in rolls. Self fixes to the floor and looks real cool.

Of course tiles are the best, but I'd destroy it in mine dropping spanners and using trolley jacks and can't afford the ultra expensive stuff having just spent £1,500 on tiles alone for my bathroom :thumbsdown:

Ha, you should see the state of it now. That was a "newly finished" state in that pic several years ago. Now I store 7 bikes (4 are mine, 3 are the wife's...), an extra set of alloys, loads of oil containers, 2 Z4 seats, spare bike stuff...

Don't think my lifting issues are heat related. It was my van (1800kgs) that caused the problem most, and I certainly don't drive it too hotly :). Seems to be worse if driving in if the ground outside is wet, which TBH is most of the time up here.
 
Sealed and painted mine before filling with it with everything except the Z, should look better come the spring when I'm having a shed put up at least it will get rid of the BBQ, Lawnmower etc and free up some space in there, but I find the paint even sticks to my motorbike tyres even if I leave them to cool down before putting it away so not necessarily a weight problem, might have to look at different kind of paint during the summer and do it again.
Did have a neighbour once who painted his and then put ceramic tiles down, mind you he kept a E36 M3 in there under a cover would bring it out on a sunny day, wash it, polish it and then put back it back in the garage under its cover, what a waste.
 
I have a garage, and it's not that tidy or clean....

because it doesn't have a door. :poke:

me and the missus are actually house hunting at the moment, and my one requirement is a decent sized garage. I like the idea of painting the floor, I've done that before in a previous engineering firm (vivid yellow, to aid finding things on a concrete floor) but it hadn't occured to me to do it on a domestic garage

Seems there was a problem with the paint and the chemical curing reaction never happened. Nothing could be put on the floor and if you stood on it the paint would stick to the soles of your feet. I tried everything to remove it without luck and at 900sq ft that was a lot of scraping: -see pic.

Eventually a contractor sandblasted the whole garage floor which worked a treat, if not leaving things a bit dusty. Got the supplier to pay for it as well after a lot of fuss.

Never ever again will I paint a garage floor, I use a dust sealer every couple of years and that's as far as I will go.

Our garages are never clean they have oil and muck all over the place. My garage wasn't bad till I did a oil change on my old 318.. let the jack down and crushed the tray that was catching my oil :(
