Does your Z4 start smoothly after...

I've notice twice now that after my Z4 sat about 4-5 days without starting, that when i started it, it idled really rough, almost like it was running on 3 cylinders and eventually the "check engine" came on. Each time i turned the car off for a few seconds, restarted and it ran fine. Anyone else expirience this? Car is always garaged...

I have had some rough starting occasionally but it went once Id topped the oil up...

My car too is used mostly at weekends.

I can leave the car in the garage for up to three weeks without using it, never had any problems starting it, no rough idle. Once it even started instantly, so i'm guessing it's something you might want to investigate.

Same here, mine has sat 3 and 4 weeks since it's only my play thing and always starts instantly and idles smoothly, even during below freezing temps. I'd have it looked into if it were mine.

What OBD II code is coming on with the check engine light? :? That may be a good place to start.

Have not had a chance to check the codes yet. Spoke to my SA he seems to think it might be the gasoline, i use BP/AMOCO premium, i was suprised to learn (according to SA) that its not on BMWs recommended fuels where as Shell, Cheveron, and Texaco are??

Sounds like a typical Service Advisor...that is his trouble shooting method is to blame something else other than BMW. Bring it in and have them check it out.

My car is used daily, so i can't comment on whether it may be because yours wasn't used for 4-5 days, but just last week i was experiencing a rough idle followed by the engine warning light. I took my car into the dealers and they discovered that one of the valve springs had snapped which had badly damaged the cam-shaft and it needed to be replaced. It was a two day job and fortunately for me was covered by warranty. I too was recommended to try different fuels prior to taking it back to BMW, and fuel injector cleaner, but as it turned out, it was a far bigger problem than had been anticipated. If i'd have continued to drive my car i would have eventually left bits of the engine strewn behind me on the road. Since i've had the car back it's running as smooth as silk. I'd definitely get it checked out by BMW mate.
