Hi All

I've been eBay scouring again and came across this one.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-BMW-Z4-3-0I-SE-BLACK-/151688088289?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2351508ae1#ht_321wt_1399

There are a couple things that concern me.

The first is that he says it has 262HP from what looks like a non-Si engine.
The second is that it's an '06 but with pre-facelift bumpers and lights.
The third is i can't find the reg plate on the BMW warranty website?? (https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Login/Index)

Is this dodgy?

The car could be an 06 it probably was an old stock car last of the pre facelift cars but it's definitely not an si so it's not 265 bhp

It's a rubbish ad no doubt. I think he's either trying to bill it with as much power as a 3.0si to try and get a sale or is just mistaken. It could have been the last batch of pre-facelifts and was just to shift the old stock at a knock down?

Doesn't seem overly dodgy but no cash up front and would want to see all the docs matching up. Check VIN etc.

Seems a mismatch of post/pre facelift & clearly something not adding up , , its a mutant more likely put together in a back street garage than a BMW factory , , there are so many others why chase one that is suspect ?

Last 2005 had clear headlights, so that would be ok. Is there anything you see that is not correct - besides the engine being the standard 231 bhp version and not the 265 one.

Front fogs not facelift :? just looks neither one or the other & for the very reason the OP has questioned i would look elsewhere

Nothing is facelift though?

Yea so why imply a more powerful engine ? I think its the clear headlights that throw the whole situation , never seen a unmodified car with those & the older rear valance & front bumper :?

Later 2005 had the clear headlights on the pre-facelift, it is to me a plain 2005 car with an 06 registration. Pre-facelift with the 231 engine.

The car is right and unmodified in that aspect, the advert is just wrongly describing a standard pre-facelift car.

I think you're right PVR.

It's registered very late considering it's after my facelift!

I'd bet on it being a grey import. This would explain why BMW UK don't have the plate on their warranty site but the insurance websites do have it. It would also explain the late registration perhaps.

I've just looked up the plate and VIN (WBABT52010LS83174) - a build date of 17.6.2004... Must have been sat up for a while as it says it was for the European market. Would a vehicle destined for Japan show as Europa?

it will be a rhd car ordered in either Belgum or Germany there was lots of people doing it buying a grey import (or someone in the forces) and bringing it over them selves and saving a few grand over the uk price our z3 was originally a German supplied car bought new in Germany . the dvla will issue a plate that coincides with the date it was first registered in the uk if the car is still a current model
