Does the rain play on your mind ? Ragtops outside

Mine lives outside and I constantly worry about the roof motor filling up with water. I know the motor is sat in water currently because I can see it when I look down.

I purchased a buzz top to put on it at night but if it's been at work all day and the hood is wet I don't like to put the cover on it... as thought that might promote mould or a smelly roof.

However, last weekend left the car under the cover all weekend, the rear of the cover secures under the boot lid. Anyway, Monday morning put my gym bag in the boot and noticed the carpet was wet. The rain had been pouring down the cover all weekend and into the boot. The battery was sat in about 8 inches of water and the carpet was soaked.

The ///M lives in the garage and therefore mine has to live outside with the workhorse 3 series.

It worries me constantly and wish I had a hard top for it!

Mine sits out all the year, in all weathers and it doesn't look any the worse for it :)

I shocked people are even considering worrying about rain on a rag top? lol
As said before if its cleaned and protected why worry?
Do you people also worry about UV light in summer and avoid using the car between the hours of 11am and 3pm? I am hoping guess not.

I had this issue with the boot being wet but not to the extend of the battery swimming in water. Turned out to be the air vents behind the carpet that had perished seals and were letting in water. I use a Cabrioshield that locates into the boot in the same way you describe and my boot is bone dry now the vents have been replaced so clearly not an issue with how the cover is designed.
 
I have my Z4 as a fun car so it lives in the garage and doesn't come out if it looks like it might rain. Im ridiculously protective of it lol. I know it wont dissolve but as my first soft top it just doesn't seem right letting it get soaked. Besides, I want to keep the underside of the car dry as much as possible.

I don't think I'll sell it for many years as long as it keeps running well so I want to keep it for dry use only. The roof does bead water really well, the previous owner applied a good coating of protection but Im not sure which one, possibly GTechniq ( spelling ).

If I used it every day Id definitely buy a hard top for it.
 
bloody hell rory, Scotland and dry in the same sentence! :D i don't think i've ever been to Scotland where it has been dry. the last time i had almost got thought the boarders in the dry but a little shower got sneaked in on us :D
 
I'm a sad Fu##er I have a full genuine BMW Z4 cover on and a cheap halfords full cover over that, every time I uncover her it's mint and dry and spotless, I'm looking at one of those portable folding garages to fix down on the drive as I haven't any more room in my second garage due to work tools etc, if I find another garage available local to (rent) use then it will be tucked up in there full time :thumbsup:
