I prefer the M3 CP ... more subtle and less around. The black M3 badge of the CP is all I need :D

I do understand the attraction of understated cars, but that goes too far. It really doesn't look like a >£60k car In Competition Spec.

I've not seen one on the road, or if I have I didn't register it as being special.

Boring looking things

Funny that as I see 6 on my 3 mile commute to work. Ok, maybe not....

Had a really good look at these before getting the Cayman. Just not special enough for me, M2 is also similar in that respect. The M3 does have better looks but it doesn't feel like a "special build" car like the old M cars and Z4M.

Upside of this is there will be thousands of them on the second hand market in a few years time. Ready for bargain performance hunters to snap up.

Already loads have come off PCP...

I was offered one off a trader friend a couple of weeks ago.. It was white and had low 20's miles with half decent spec for £30k....

I looked at a few M4's and liked them, I was at a dealership so I had to leave right away before I did something silly.
One of the joys of having an M car is "blending in" with the regular traffic. Only the "car" people will see an M and immediately identify it ....the police on the other hand rarely notice. I've had a trooper shake his fist at me from the side of the road simply because I was driving my shiny black Z3 down the freeway, in heavy traffic and at the speed limit. No-one ever did that to my M3. :driving:

Its a marvel of modern technology.

But there isnt anything exciting about it, in the looks department, sound and drive. When I had a go it felt like a faster 335D, sounded bad but the torque was crazy but you cant ring them out because your done before the end of 2nd.

Its too effortless and not very involved. I dont think its the turbo engine its just lost the M character they arent special cars they are mass produced for everyone instead of being for the enthusiast.

Unfortunately the M division is a victim of modern marketing.

Plus every man and his dog has one and the residuals arent worth entertaining.

  Brilliant!

As for the M4, I think as long as they aren't white, they stand out quite well. Quite why you'd buy a white one when there are so many other great colours to choose from is beyond me. Some cars really suit white but the on the M4 it just makes it seem very plain. Each to their own I suppose.

Caution: I may have been fed a line of crap at a BMW dealership, : Yesterday, a young salesman at the dealers showed me a massive difference between the M3 and the M4 (not the number of doors !). It does actually pertain to the doors :), the 4 doesn't have the same rear fender flare that the 3 has so it is the same as a normal 4 series. It seems the body panel is quite expensive to make with the flare so rather than retool , just use the same panel. The 3's already have the tooling. Makes sense to me, it could be a lot of hokey but ????

______There was an M3 right next to an M4 in the showroom, the 3 looked nastier, must have been the extra flare

Nothing to do with tooling, the 4 is wider than the 3 as standard. They didn't feel the need for a wider track than the normal 4 on an M4 so same body panel. However, to get the M axle on the 3 it needs widening so hence the flared panel and yes the 3 looks better because of it.

So I had my first proper time in an M4 today. I love the look of them, but feared the feel / look were a bit too sedate, but wow does it work well. I see 5-6 4 series a day though and most of them have m badges on the side. Each and every time, without fail, I do a double take to see if it's ''really an M4'' or not which would bug me no end, call me a car snob, I dunno

It felt far more special than I thought it would, yet somehow still lacked a certain x factor..

However, if I had one, a few styling mods and a new exhaust and it's perfect. Something between the standard M4 and This :D

I was on the motorway the other day and spotted an M4 in my mirrors coming slowly up behind me in the middle lane. As it came alongside and cruised past it was a silver convertible and to me looked bloody superb. I would have one tomorrow!
