Does the auto have issues?

Whilst proudly showing off my splendid auto Z4, I was told by someone that the auto gearboxes have a habit of going pop at about 100,000 miles and although they are sealed for life, an oil change should be carried out before then.

Is that a common thing on these, or was he just jealous? Or is it a wise thing to do anyway?

Id have the oil changed as a matter of routine maintenance between before 100k but you would have to be very unlucky to have issues with a BMW autobox that had been used correctly .

i cant recall anybody having problems with an auto box

That is reassuring, thanks. My dash is telling me 14,000 miles to the next service, but I will change all the oils & filters before then I think.
