Does Tesco think we're feckin' stupid?

Observed the local Tesco fuel price edging up faster than the usual site I benchmark them against. Once again, they've now launched a 5p/litre off when you spend £50 in store. They do this every bloody time and seem to think we won't notice. I even asked them once why their price had gone up again. "Oh, we've got the 5p/litre offer starting in a few weeks"

Every Little Helps :headbang:

For our foreign members, "Every Little Helps" is their marketing tagline

Weird that you posted this - I just went to Morrisons and thought this about them as theirs has gone up 4p in the last 2-3 weeks... Thieving gypsy ********

Sainsbury has their 10p a litre off.

Now that is a lot better than those 5p thingies that only saves you a couple of pounds ...

I'd say go to Tesco and observe the queues of people with their 5p off vouchers... that will answer your question as to whether they think people are stupid or not... it'll also no doubt confirm that they are probably right :?

at one time at tescos you could give them up to 3 5p vouchers at a time .
i used to do the shopping and stop at £65 pay then put another £65 of shopping out the trolley then do the last part out the trolley allways got 3 5p off vouchers.but this last lot of fuel i got they wouldnt except the 3 vouchers  it was worth going when 15p off a ltr

we used to fill up at supermarket filling stations
(we visit great britain, touring with a motorcaravan, twice a year)
until there was a story on the radio, that again there were several engines "killed" after motorists had filled up at supermarket filling stations

since then, only premium brand filling stations...
saving a few p
and risking the engine
what a deal :headbang:

I think that's just a scare story. I think most of the mainstream supermarkets buy on the spot market to get a price, and there are only a few refineries in the UK. As for pricing, the Shell station near my office is always cheaper than the supermarket near home.

I've never known them take multiple vouchers. Fair play if you got them to.
We haven't got a Tesco / Morrisons or Sainsbury within a 10 mile radius. By the time you've factored in the petrol to get there and back.... our local Waitrose sells fuel but it ain't cheap. They're all thieving bar stewards.

the best ive had was spend £40 and get 14p off per litre at morrisons. the offer they have at the minute sucks. for every £10 gift card you get 1p off per litre

I try to avoid Tesco at every opportunity.NEVER buy fuel from there,it's crap anyway, always Shell V-power, and we do our main shopping at Asda and local shops/markets fior fresh stuff. They are absolute thieving toe rags.

no, a year or two ago some dirty fuel got into the system and caused quite a lot of damage to quite a number of cars. bit of a one off though. Iirc something wasn't cleaned properly in a ship.

I don't check the prices and get excited when I've got a voucher.
They trap fools like me

However I more than make up for it with bargain value coco pops.

A lot of people ended up with ruined O2 sensors because of something in the fuel. Go to some more rural areas and you'll find the supermarket and premium brand tankers filling up from the same tanks in the same distribution centres before heading off to their respective forecourts. It's only any additives added after that that makes a difference to what comes out the pump.

Petrol is no different to any other supermarket commodity. How many of us buy the wine that is stickered as half price?

When was a bottle of Jacob's Creek or whatever on offer at £4.99 ever on the shelf at full price for a gnat's knacker under a tenner?

I don't think the supermarkets are profiteering on petrol. Quite the opposite , it's a deliberate loss-leader to get you into their premises.

It's the oil companies and government to blame. Otherwise how else would you explain that in 2009, when oil was $148 a barrel, unleaded was 120p/litre yet now it is 145p/litre when oil is $113?

the forcourts only make pennies per litre from each sale and when they run some offers they do loose money. its the same as the buy 1 get 2 free offers on products in the stores, they take a huge hit but expect people to do their weeks shop to make up the difference. i work part time in one and its amazing how much profit can be made by the positioning of a display table, im talking thousands a week
