Does my z4 have aux?

Hi guys, I've just bought a 2006 face-lift z4 & wondering if they all have an aux input? The car is in a lockup till weds, so I can't easily look but I can't remember seeing one. Also, I 'think' it has 10 speakers, if this makes any difference? I have checked the options code online and these are..
S644
S662
S692
S676
Does anyone know what actually mean?

Thanks

Hi there, the aux-in was never on the options list - cars either had it or didn't.

I'm pretty sure it became standard in September 2006 as my 1st Coupe built in Oct 06 had it but my 2nd built in Aug 06 didn't (although it had been retro-fitted inside the glovebox). So if you can find the build date on a vin-checker site that might provide an answer.

S662 is the BMW Business stereo, S692 is CD-changer preparation, S676 is the hi-Fi speaker system with 10 speakers and S644 is Blue-tooth telephone preparation.

Evening,

If your car has an AUX fitted as standard, it should be located here, underneath the air conditioning controls:-

A previous owner could have retrofitted one (into the glovebox for example) and if you cycle through the mode button on the head unit, if the car has AUX, an AUX mode will appear on the screen.

If you do not have an AUX port, they are quite easy to retrofit. I purchased a Fruity cable off eBay:

If your car has Nav, DSP or BT, you will need a modified cable which Rory can supply.

Rory provides great instructions and it will take approximately 10 minutes to install (if that!). You just need to remove the air conditioning vents above the stereo, there are two metal clips inside the vents which you can use a flathead screwdriver to release and the vents can then be pulled out.

There will be two screws holding the stereo in which you need to remove and you can then pull the stereo out and access the wiring behind

OK, cheers guys, never looked up under there...
So S676 10 speaker is an upgrade from standard? Are there any problems if I were to fit an aftermarket stereo?

Yes, the standard one had 6 speakers.

There was an even higher spec upgrade with a 430 watt amplifier that was S677.

Sorry I don't know about fitting after-market units, but I'm sure others have done it so you ought to find something if you do a search on here.

Seriously big job changing to a new head unit on the 10 speaker dsp, plus its a decent enough system, get yourself an aux in or Bluetooth system and you're golden

OK thanks. Big job, bugger, I was hoping to fit a dab with USB port. Do you know if fitting an aux will allow me to use ipod jack, or does it have to be phone? Cheers

aux in is standard 3.5 jack, i think most ipod still use 3.5 jack so you will just needa link cable

Mine had a parrot installed when I bought it. This does my bluetooth for audio and calls (from the phone). Then it's got a cable in the glove box for a old ipod. Works well for me :)

You can also buy a combined aux and Bluetooth cable from fruity car cables. I put a post on here last week on how to do it. You get the aux port still but also an option to Bluetooth stream to the aux port.

OK guys, cool. I'll have a good search. I was hoping for USB, as I always forget & leave my phone unless it's in my pocket

I bought a Bluetooth module that plugs in where the cd multi-changer (that I don’t have) would connect.

It’s easy to connect to, easy install and cheap. And you can use the steering wheel controls to skip songs etc.

This maybe a daft question but does this mean that with this device, you can play music etc from your phone via Bluetooth?

Yep, I have one in mine. 15 minutes to fit & works perfectly. I usually use Amazon Music & as soon as I start the car it picks up where I left off. Works great with the mfsw too as stated above.

Yep, as Oldgitdave says, Hooks straight up. Also plays Satnav or whatever else you have on your phone too.

And no cutting/drilling anything
