does anyones window do this?

i pull into my parking slot, engine running, and hit the button to put the window up. it starts to go up automatically. if i move the steering wheel it goes down.

its done it a couple of times now and its easy to replicate. either its a new and exciting problem or [quoting a great scouse saying] "det do dat tho dont they" :D

I've never found that to be the rule, but I swear something like that happened to me once!

I'll keep an eye out!

yeah! i took mine to my local BMW and they said they could'nt find any reason why it would happen :?

I kind of think that if it's not causing a problem i wouldnt worry about it

Sometimes the drivers window while going up has a mind of its own and decides to go down.
Having heard that BMWs have an issue with windows I just thought it might be I got unlucky.
Has done it several times but I did not notice if it had to do with turning the steering wheel.
Will try it -along with turning the wheel- and report back.

it may have always done it :D and ive only just noticed... i dont think it does it when in motion just stationary. but sure as the sky is up if i set the window in motion and turn the wheel it goes back down. doesn't matter which way you turn it either :)

more curious than anything....

If i drop my driver and passenger windows to clear the overnight condensation, I almost never get both of them back up on the first press.

There is always at least one "up - stop - down" moment. I kind of assumed it was a "finger trap" sensor being tripped out by moisture on the top of the window but no idea if this is the true case or not.

if I auto up my window and remove the key it auto backs the hell down  irritating sometimes

Could it be the extra load caused by dry steering taking some power from the window motor which then auto drops as it thinks its hit the top?

That would be my thinking too, power to steering causing a voltage drop that the car thinks is a finger trap by mistake. Could be anything, the motor, the sensors, the battery, alternator etc...

BMW window regulators have been know to show weakness so perhaps this is a very early sign they are on their way out. Certainly that would be my guess.

exactly as described - i had it, but then the auto-up stopped working... and the original problem went away. it will auto-down but not auto-up now, but steering wheel shenanigans stopped...

Ive had something like this happen, if i auto up both windows and the passenger side is further up, when it reaches fully closed the drivers side sometimes changes direction and rolls down. I thought it must be something to do with the safety side of the window circuitry where it thinks its hit an obstruction and reverses direction caused by a volt drop where the passenger window motor slows at its closed position :o

Maybe? :?

Drop the windows & clean the rubber seals with soapy water/toothbrush, then spray some silicone around the guides the glass runs up&down in.
I did this when mine started playing up & have had no issues since, it must remove a lot of friction & stop them from bouncing.
Regards

Gummi Pfledge sorts the window going back down unexpectedly. Similar to Smartbear's fix. Never seen it caused by turning the wheel though!

This happens to me all the time. It has to be a hard turn of the wheel for it to happen and affects both windows.

I've had it plugged into diagnostics when I was doing something else and saw that I had a fault code relating to a possible short somewhere but it's never bothered me enough to seriously look into it. I've promised myself I'm going to fix it this spring...

EDIT: I knew I had a video of it somewhere http://s680.photobucket.com/user/Liam-Saxo/media/IMG_2603.mp4.html

Did try it -and after several attempts- I didn't find a correlation!
