Does anyone with the 35i and DCT know how to Bark?

No I don't mean dog impressions.. I mean now and then my exhaust makes an almighty bark that sounds amazing and for the life of me I can't replicate what I'm doing to make it do that. It seems to be overrun at high revs. Hard acceleration then right on the cusp of a shift let off and baaarrkk. it's loud enough to make people jump as I pass by. Lasts perhaps a second or two. I'd love to figure out how to replicate it rather than luck!

I can do that, it's just hard acceleration from rest....it's a great sound agreed

It's not the little barks on each shift, this is a monster 1 to 2 second long loud bark. I can only assume its letting off the throttle when the dct shifts but I can't bloody do it on demand...

It only does it once, that's it, it's more of a loud cracking sound.....it's amazing, sometimes embarrassingly loud...

In any event it sounds frckin fantastic, that with the still breathtaking acceleration keeps this baby on my drive! I iz still in love...

For me pottering around is in normal but the best mode is sport, just more responsive on throttle, changes are barky and steering heavy. Sport plus is for the brave as suspension is mega stiff and traction control at minimum, I.e. make sure you have room to lose control!

Starts in first.....I rarely use Sport or Sport Plus
Ta. Wonder why it doesn't start in second like the 6 and 8 speed autos - clutch wear maybe?

The suspension seems rock solid, a did have a brief drive in an adaptive car ages ago but not long enough to have a good opinion. Probably worth seeking a car out that has adaptive suspension though.

The 35i does sound pretty insane, would love to hear a DCT through the gears. I can get some nice blaps and pops downshifting in my manual, and at the lights if some boy racers behind me :D

The great thing about the DCT is that its of course tied to the engine fully.. engine management wise... This means that the gearbox can tell the engine whats coming and make the faster rev changes to match the transmission requirements. Means that changes are as quick as possible as the engine knows whats coming. Something thats of course missing on a manual as the engine management can't tell if you're going to go up or down a gear.

It means, at least on the sound front, lots of pops and bangs as the engine vents to slow revs, or blips to increase revs rapidly. Its one of the best sounds this side of 40 grand...

Mine does it pretty consistently when upshifting from 1st to 2nd on hard acceleration. It sounds like a backfire.

That's the POP sound when shifting... The car does that without any help from me.. The sound I'm talking about it a long 2-3 second bark when letting off the throttle on a shift, very hard to time just right but the sound really does last quite a time and isn't a backfire/pop noise...

This sounds like alot of fun...can anyone record an exhaust clip so we mere mortals can share in the magic of the gods?

Kevin.
