I've owned several cars where owners waved at each other. I think that it's nice to acknowledge people - I always say a cheery 'hello' when walking my dog to other dog owners / walkers etc. for example - and I think the 'wheel wave' is similar. The wavey cars were (in no particular order):
Subaru Impreza WRX
MGF 1.8VVC
Rover Coupe 1.8VVC
Toyota MR2 2.0GT and late a Turbo
My non-wavey cars were:
BMW 118d Sport
BMW 318i SE
BMW X3 2.0d
So it appears from the above that owning a sporty car (or a sports variant) gets you waves. Then how is it I don't get any waves from fellow Z4 drivers? In fact, they don't even make eye contact. Or is it that I have a 3.0si and the only others round where I live appear to be roadsters of lesser capacity. If I drove a smaller engined Zed would people give me the time of day?
My theory is that other Z4 drivers know that the Coupe only came with the larger capacity engine, hence most roadster drivers have a slight inferiority complex that keeps their hands glued to the wheel.
In fact I've only seen one other Z4C and no Z4MC's at all on the Fylde (Blackpool) coast.
They seem to be rare as rocking horse poo! Or I just don't get out much...
