Does anyone use a cigarette lighter spliter?

Posted about a dash cam and decided to get one. I do not want to hard wire it or any other similar device (GPS etc.) as I want to be able to move them from vehicle to vehicle.

The Z is too old to have more than one lighter plug. Searched on Amazon and there are many different splitters available. I like the ones that mount on the side of the center console vs the ones that just stick out of the original socket (too bulky looking). Here is a picture of one that looks OK. Any FHE with something similar or suggestions of one to get ?

How many thing do you have to charge dude? And how many times do you get in the car and they are all flat at once?!

you can still run a piggyback fuse line from the fusebox and use bullet or spade connectors in line close to the device to make it easily removable, just a case of sliding the male and female connectors apart

Well I want to power a GPS and the dash cam and use them both between 3 vehicles. The 2004 Z, a 2013 FJ cruiser and a 2015 Tacoma. Both of the Toyotas have multiple cigarette lighter sockets so no problem using both devices at the same time. No hardwiring needed or desired. But the Z presents the problem and I figured one of these splitters would be a simple way to deal with that.

The dash cam would be used whenever I am driving any of the vehicles so only one power outlet needed, I ordered mounts for all 3 vehicles so I only need to switch over the cam and power cord. The GPS, I only use occasionally and would need two power outlets in the Z only. Does that make sense or am I missing something?

Obviously the splitter is the easiest solution, i guess it depends how neat you can make the install and what you are happy with.. me i couldn't be arsed moving that stuff from vehicle to vehicle. Could you not buy extra power cords, one for each vehicle, piggyback from the fusebox and neatly run the wiring in. That way you could still just plug in the cam from vehicle to vehicle without having to drag wiring out of the car and have it trailing to lighter sockets

Good idea, once I get the dash cam I can check that out better. The company does offer a kit for hardwiring. I agree that hanging wire is not a clean method and it would probably drive me crazy after awhile. I’ll have to decide exactly what to do when the dash cam gets here.

I have this one which works well. The plug has a switch and voltage readout to show it is on. (I know the voltage is a bit low, but car not been used for a while and it is very cold here.) Came from Amazon as far as I remember. It could probably be hard wired but you would loose the facility to switch everything off.
