Does anyone know what this is?

So I was in the middle of fitting an aux cable using a kit I grabbed from EBay, and noticed that I seem to have a different type of coin tray/storage space. It looks like it's been previously modified, but I can't work out for what purpose, or see anything similar online.

It has a little cone, and some form of window to let a light shine through. Then it looks like the light is still present. It shines when the car is on....!

I've taken some pictures which I've popped up below. Anyone have any ideas? Or fancy having a guess?

I'm hoping it's some form of treasure locator. :P

I thought it was the fag-stabber-outer, not fag holder? The window lets the glow from the 12v supply shine through so you can check the tray's contents.

Never understood why you'd want fag ash illuminated...

To the OP - standard part. Welcome to German foibles.

Same principle as coal effect electric fires. Makes it looking glowing whe there's no fire. Alternatively it helps avoid stubbing your fag out on the Sport button! :P
