Does anyone home service?

I still enjoy getting my hands dirty with cars and prefer to do as much as i can myself, not with standing that future buyers will like to see a recognised stamp in the service book is there anyone else that works on their cars themselves?

Happily home service cheaper cars like the old 2.2 I had. I would take an alpine for a stamp though

For me it’s part of the pleasure of z4 ownership! I try and do as much as I can and enjoy learning along the way.

I have a mechanical background, access to a lift, and the internet.
I enjoy doing my own repairs when they are within my comfort zone.
So far struts and shocks, tires and wheels, spark plugs, and some other projects planned.
It's satisfying to do your own & it is definitely part of the fun for me

Yep. Mostly everything that the zed has needed has been by my own fair hand.
It's put me through a lot and caused a multitude of skinned knuckles but it's been eminently enjoyable to learn new things along the way!
Just did the propshaft doughnut, new stat and CDV delete this week.
With a car this easy to work on why waste money at a garage?
Anyone who takes a pre-facelift E85 to a garage for an oil-change needs their head examining!

All really encouraging, thanks for taking the time to reply, I've restored and run a tvr for the past 7 years so am well versed in skinned knuckles :D

I’m a big fan of home servicing although I’d be thinking about going for the stamp on an Alpina.

You could always go for the stamp when it ‘needs’ a service and do supplementary oil changes in between yourself.

I do want I can that doesn’t need a stamp.

Bloody stupid if you think about it. Folk want a stamp for changing the oil which is about the easiest job to do. Changing pads and discs though which are safety critical and no stamp required.

Bloody bonkers.

I do my own oil and filter changes, brake services and as much as I can do at home.
I think I give my cars more care than a garage would :)

A lot of like minded replys. Ive always maintained my own vehicles, kept receipts for parts purchased and never had trouble selling when the time came, i do accept that it depends on the expectations of your target audience though.

First to buck the trend! A garage does all work on my cars. I did learn to change brake pads, since its a necessary skill to have on a track car, but i hate crawling around on my knees doing it.

So general servicing, i drop the car off in the morning, and pick it up at lunchtime. I really take zero enjoyment from servicing a car!

Fair enough, think you have to either enjoy it or do it out of necessity. Im currently freezing my wotsits off outside fitting an Eberspacher to a T5 thinking that paying someone would have been sensible...but i never would :D

Never taken a car to a garage for work in my life bar for mot's. Always enjoyed servicing my cars and do much more thorough job than a dealership ever would with more tender loving care too

I used to love working on cars but now without a garage ramp and the right tools I find it a bit tedious. I'll still do what I can that does not need a ramp (which isn't a lot haha), otherwise I just take it to my either my trusted mechanic or BMW Indi garage.

I dug out an inspection pit and laid a new floor in my garage by hand myself just for the privilege.
